Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
One of the sales guys that knew what I was looking for sent me a link to a truck that was suspiciously less than the others. That's when I learned they had 2 wheel drive or's

I got laughed at for having side steps on my 2WD. Reason being my father in law had mid stage Alzheimers and they helped him get in/out plus knowing he could use them to judge distance.

I'm on my second 2wd Tacoma and I live in the Midwest. Not into wheeling and 99.999999% of my time is on paved roads. I like the higher seating position the Tacoma offers and if the roads are snowy/icy I just go slow and make sure my tires are up to date. Just bought some Michelin Defender LTX and it handles pretty good in my opinion! Also, saved a little weight/cost going 2wd which is nice considering I have a 350lb topper on it.

I own a 2wd sport. I don’t think there were any 2wd off roads. I’m sure they are rare if it’s a thing. Interesting.

    edit to add
I went to the build page and four wheel drive is the only choice for trd off road.

My son has a 2005 Tacoma 4-cyl 2WD manual long bed. He has four dedicated snow tires on it and gets around fine everywhere I do including frequent trips to the north woods to go skiing. My truck is 4x4 with good Michelin all-season tires. The main plus of 4WD is getting underway from stops when there is 2+ inches of snow on the pavement, especially on hill startups and climbs: no spinning or rear swinging out to one side or the other. I had good street tires the first year I had it and 4WD certainly made a difference. It's very stable in snow conditions with all four wheels engaged and driving: Two wheels pulling and two pushing.

Again: very balanced and stable with 4WD engaged and the stability control quietly working behind the scenes is the gravy. Especially on snow and the occasional ice storm that hits when you're on I95 North somewhere in Maine and you're own your own.

I had a used Isuzu Pup when I lived on Hickam AFB, HI in late 2002.

It was the only 2X4 truck I ever owned.

My 2021 Sport is the first NEW 4X4 truck I ever owned.

Do I need the 4-Wheel Drive? Probably Not.

But I've learned a thing or two about monthly usage to keep the mechanism from freezing up...and only using 4H on straight-aways!

Never attempt to use 4X4 while doing turns!

It's also useful in the rain (straight-aways) and the snow (straight-aways).

Eventually I wanna drive it on the sand during summer months here on Delaware Beaches. :)

And of course...I have the OTT...which gives me more opportunities to experience 4-Wheel Drive.
