Anyone have luck yet fitting a rack under the SP on a 4th gen?

 

I made some pole mounts for the awning poles. Greyman panel for the X1 door. USB in the rear pillar for powering the USB lights on the FSR awning.

 

Is it USB-A on the V2 FSR awning? I got one of the V1’s about 3 months before the V2 came out and I’m thinking of upgrading.

 

Yeah, USB-A Y cable to 2 barrel connectors that go into the awning bars. I wish they had put a 3rd LED strip on the 3rd arm in the middle.

I made a custom mount for a ProPex HS2211 propane heater to mount to my rear right door. Similar to the Truma install, but man Truma is a pain to work with. They won't sell you a unit and they won't let anyone else install the VarioHeat unit. So I did the same thing but with a better heater (tuned for elevation) for half the price. If you're in the Fort Collins, CO area, go get a heater from Van Cafe. The 11lb propane tank goes on the molle panel. Its there for cooking as well. When we use the heater we'll put the tank outside. The molle acts as a nice screen to keep the heater space more guarded.

Made some more progress. All that is missing are some silicone gooseneck hose elbows and couplers to finish installing the air intake and exhaust lines to the vent. And the propane inlet and hardline to the unit. I have an appointment with Van Cafe this Friday to finish those last two items. I'll post when its all done and will show a video of it running. Van Cafe said they'd want to film and post the install, too.

 

Upgraded my kitchen setup recently with the Kelty camp kitchen deluxe bag. Previously all this stuff was in the cabinet in the bed. Now I just pull the bag out and hang it off the side of the truck. Definitely easier than trying to reach over the side all the time.

 

I was thinking of getting one of those, but ended up ordering some .08" thick corrugated plastic last night so I can DIY some dividers for the small Husky box I keep all my kitchen gear in.

 

I picked up my first sewing machine last year. I have my 3rd now. Sewing is actually really easy, relaxing as long as the pattern is followed and the order of operation is spot on. I've saved a lot of money making my own stuff. Plus it's cool to make custom one offs

 

I had been using a USPS fixed-rate box that fit the cutting board, plates and frying pan perfectly and tucked in between another box and the edge of my cabinet. Bowl and strainer plus some other items went in the other cardboard box that also held food. Utensils went in an organizer that hangs off the rail of my cabinet. That setup worked well for a few years but I was getting sick of having to reach in and grab stuff, especially when the back passenger wheel is up on a rock to level the truck.

I'd like to get a sewing machine for DIY and for repairing clothing and other items. @Akguy what sewing machine(s) did you end up with and how have you been using them?

 

Started with a singer 403 from the 1960s
Great machine for $80 them picked up a singer heavy duty just as a throw away when it does break I won't care that much, for heaver stuff, I was making a DIY wedge camper like ripcord.
My 3rd is a industrial Juki which I absolutely love. My recommendation is watch Facebook and get a used industrial, they hold their value and are bombproof & easily repaired
Didn't get the wedge camper finished in time so I bought a super pacific camper, made that first wedge tent, sleeping quilt, bed sheets & pillow cases, bug netting for the camper windows and rear door, stuffsacks, some clothes & fleece hats.

Once I'm back home from the trip I'm on I'm thinking about making bug netting for the camper community in addition to other little stuff just as a side business

 

I finished the heater install today with some help from Van Cafe in Fort Collins, CO - they sold me their first prototype 3D print of a quick connect propane bulkhead. She toasty.

I have most everything for a second full kit, just need to make a set of replacement flange brackets from the leftover L channel aluminum. DM me if you're interested. I got the hoses, hose elbows, hose connectors, and hose clamps all on Amazon. What I don't have is another of the quick disconnect propane bulkheads that Van Cafe made. They said they're planning to sell them however. I bet you could get one if you call or email them.

 

I am interested in making the move to a SuperPacific set up from my current set up: Smartcap and iKamper mini.

I live in the wet wet wet PNW. I'm curious about waterproofing the bed. I am having trouble waterproofing the current set up. The SmartCap itself seems relatively watertight but I get water intrusion from the tailgate despite sealing it and from the front of the bed box despite RTVing every hole I could find. I even sealed under the plastic bedrails where the metal bedsides have openings.
No luck. I still get a ton of water in the bed area.

When SuperPacific installs the canopy/tent do they do any sealing other than along the bed rails under the canopy itself? How are you guys in the PNW doing with water intrusion? I have to take out quite a bit of camping gear during fall/winter due to the wetness, rust and mold that develops.

I installed the tailgate seal kit off Amazon and that totally seals the backend for my Tacoma. They also seal the top front corners of the bed.

There are drip rails/awnings around the door openings so when the doors are open it diverts the run off so it doesn't drip on you which is a bonus GFC doesn't have.

I live in WA. SP does not do any additional sealing other than putting the camper on (at least they didn't in early 2023). I did some prep work before we picked it up. I pulled up the plastic bed rails, and covered all the holes with aluminum tape and ran a bead of sealant before putting the plastic caps back on. I also tried to seal the front corners between the bed sides and front. But looks like I missed some spots because water is still getting in. I plan on stuffing a bunch of silicone in there and hopefully fix that issue.

Then there is also the tailgate. I have rubber trim going around the tailgate, but it's still open near the top of the tailgate. I still need to figure out how to close this, but honestly not much water is getting in through there. My real nemesis is the front corners between the bed sides and bed front.

The rain drain gutters for the front corners are a must I believe. It took one trip in the rain before I bought them. A couple people make them.
