Blackout Phase 2- Plastidip Rear Bumper

After doing the grill with plastidip a few days ago, decided to tackle the rear bumper today. I think it came out great. Let me know what you guys think. Sorry these pics suck, was getting dark.

 

Did mine. Ran retrieval for a race. Dragging bumper a lot! It began to peel from underside. I scored with knife around peeling area. Peeled off paint and resprayed!

 

Dwreck did it look good as new after the replay?

 

Very nice! I have had to redo mine once...it holds up pretty well though.

 

When you say re-do it, did you peel it all off and respray, or just fix problem areas?

I'm looking into doing the toolbox, I'm pretty sure Plastidip would work for it, though there are some hangups in me doing it because I have my radio antenna mounted through it and taking the cable all the way out to remove the box for painting would be a PITA.

 

Looks great. Did you spray over the plastic pieces on the bumper? Also, did you remove the bumper?

 

I didn't remove the bumper. I left it on the truck but I did mask off the edges of the stock plastic pieces. I didn't want to spray over them since they were already black. Carefully masking with tape and being careful with my spraying technique was the key. It all came out really well, and only took a little over an hour.

 

When respraying I, for the bumper, scored around problem areas and peeled it off. Then resprayed it. I sprayed whole bumper on last coat so it blended.

Just did a wheel. I marred it up real good doing retrievals for a race. It had so many problem areas that I just peeled the entire wheel and resprayed it!

 

Thats good to know that its a pretty easy repair. I was worried about doing my bumper with it since it does get hits with rocks and such when I go through mud holes, but it sounds like I could fix it up easy enough.

Thanks man. I know sometimes after I've taken my truck through some mudholes and had it covered with mud, people see the 2wd sticker and are like One guy actually asked me at a gas station if it was really a 4wd and I just put that on there to be funny

This may be a dumb question but I'm still trying to figure out what you mean by "Plastidip"??

Do it! You really can reverse it easily if you screw up/don't like it. The first time I did my front grill I wasn't happy with the way it was coming out, so I peeled everything off and started over again, but I got it to come out pretty good the 2nd try.

What would be cool on yours is if you did the front grill black, but then did the Toyota emblem in red. I think that would be awesome
