It was 52°F here in Maryland this morning so I said, screw the rowing machine, I'm going for a bike ride. I knocked out about 10 miles in a little under an hour and when I got home I realized I miscalculated; the roads were fairly damp and the amount of detritus which had collected on my 42 year old bike was seriously annoying. I took it out to the porch and cleaned it up, but what fell to the decking was so nasty I had to fire up the wet/dry vac before Wifey came home and saw what a mess I'd made. :D

I just thought back to the last time I went for a bike ride in December, and as far as I can tell, the last time was December of 1977 when I lived in San Diego.

Well I've been doing a little research on the internet and according to the AI on google "replacement cost" insurance isn't required in my state unless a house is financed, nor is property coverage required. It also says I can dictate the amounts I want to cover. Even financed there is some kind of 80% rule. I'm a little foggy on the particulars and after finding the information I've found I sent a message asking questions to the State Insurance Department as well as calling an insurance attorney. If I find out my insurance guy has been lying to me there may be some hell to pay.

We have lots of family coming in for Christmas, including several hungry teenage and early-twenties boys. Sunday I made a huge batch of split pea soup, complete with a massive ham shank from our local Amish market, and even after a half-dozen bowls for us and a few friends, there is still 1.8 gallons left for the herd of locusts about to descend upon us.

Tomorrow I start in on making about the same amount of Venison and Black Bean Chili. :)

Looks good... Now you just need some good cornbread to go with it. Not that sweet c**p made with sugar. Real cornbread.

Not much on the agenda today. Called to have the signal pickup device removed from the old satellite dish, so I can send it back. They want it back, for some reason. I decided not to climb around on a wet roof to retrieve it. It will cost me a hundred, but I don't have any business doing this stuff anymore. I'm happy with my decision, wife's happy, no reason to risk falling at my age. New hard-wire internet connection works like a charm. Weather doesn't affect it. I'll find someone to remove the old dish from the roof probably next summer sometime. I still have a bundle of new shingles. I'll use a couple for the patch. Perfect!

Kids coming in tomorrow. We'll have a nice meal... they'll pick up a carry-out dinner order in town, on the way through, so we don't need to cook a large meal. Should be a good time. We're not getting any younger, so any time with them is treasured. Happy holidays all!

Welcome. Quite a few of us are 70+

@johneman Dinner tonight is at a winery, wine club members have a winery hosted event 3 or 4 times a year. I will start the process to smoke a pork shoulder for my son's office Christmas party this Friday. I will put it into a brine this morning then do a dry rub overnight in the fridge. Smoke it tomorrow and let it rest overnight in a styrofoam meat shipping box. I will pull the pork on Friday morning before he leaves for work.

    Good Morning Porch Folks :hattip:.

Another day closer to the Holidays . I had to dig out my stetch waist pants for enjoying the food that goes with the dinners :hungry:.
Another year of New Years resolutions to lose weight (haven't stuck to them in the past) instead of buying clothes that fit :D...

Have a great day and be safe.

Good Morning Dale :hattip:. The soup looks amazing and bet it tastes as good as it looks . Will 1.8 gallons be enough for the gang of youngsters descending on you . A nice bowl of soup, a slice or two of fresh home made bread, and family. Makes for a good meal. Never had venison chili before bet it tastes good :hungry:.

Have you thought of swapping recipes with Tom @95SLE? He is quite the chef.

Have yourself a great day, enjoy the cooking (the smell of the food cooking makes my mouth water) and family time. :fistbump:
