Going through some old boxes…found my ORIGINAL stocker.. ‘83 SR-5 pre-tacoma

 

Mine was dark blue.

 

you'll appreciate this Tom since we grew up in the same area.

78-80 I was a paperboy for the Rockingham County Gazette, and my 'boss' was a woman, who, at 12, had an outsized impact on my preference for women, and she drove a 4x4 Toyota Pickup. When that woman slid out of that truck in my driveway....That was it.

It was just like this...

 

I was hooked, but had to sell her in due to a ‘car seat’ problem….needed something that was more “practical” (my wife’s word, not mine)

 

Love the old taco pics! My first one was an 74' SR5 regular cab long bed, 4 cylinder 4 speed manual, white with the Toyota red/orange/yellow stripes along the side. Tan vinyl seat, roll-up windows, but it did have AC... which in AZ it was totally necessary.

 

Mine topped out after about 70mph. Driving that Rascal on the highway meant a hospital stay before you could “function” again but I sure miss the simplicity of it.

didnt have a first gen but i had a 3rd gen pickup when i was 16. i kept it for 6 years and sold it and my car i had when i got my 13 tacoma.
