@Delta09 you got any of these at "the company"?

Boss brought this in and said they had to have it. Both ends needed repairing. I got to measuring and the body has .100" crown. No way to hold it in the lathe to turn the ends if I welded them up.

Told him it would be quicker to make a new one so that's what I did.

Is this poor maintenance or just normal wear and tear. Yikes!

Also, look into getting yourself a steady rest. Should help with the oversized jobs.

Next time, charge em for 2, that why they can keep going while you make a spare.

You should hear how loud they thump when that shaft fails. We had one that shook the whole floor

 

If the lock collar gets loose, it'll spin the shaft. Or the bearing goes out. That's typically the two failures we see in our building.
