    It's less Tacoma and more mod
    Yeah it's sad, I took a degree and a half of timing out last time I took the truck down to the Mojave to keep it happy with the poop grade 91. I don't understand why you guys don't have 92 actually considering your elevation. We have 92 here mostly and we are at about 2000'.

    And I really thought it was just me doubting how much E85 I put in or 91 etc since I kept E85 in gas cans and filled 91 at the gas station in the ST.

    On E85 alone I had a consistently, well running car.

    There were a couple of balls that were "trapped" in the bell housing. They can and do move around since they are round and roll easily when the truck moves. But they only made noise when one would come in contact with the spinning flex plate gear teeth. Quite loud when that happened. However, the noise cannot be mistaken for pinging or detonation.

    Yeah I was sure it wasn't any of the ball bearings hence my description of "follows the engine noise".

    I added that as an after thought because there were a number of bearings still in the starter, but two fell out into the valley after I unbolted and pulled the starter.

    In my mind though, one could still be in there even though I haven't heard it :laughing:

    huh, I'm surprised that it's so much different especially at the altitudes there..can buy 91 octane all the way up to 11k altitude here in CO lol

    I am unfamiliar with the engine you are working on so the "into the valley" reference makes me think the starter is somehow up high, between the heads. :notsure:

    For me, this happened on a 5VZ-FE so the starter is low on the passenger side. And it spewed the ball bearings into the trans bell housing from below.

    I was surprised how many of those little fuckers there were. Several were still in the starter gear bearing and several fell on the ground when we removed the starter. It was only later that we found there were at least 3 or 4 of them still in the bell housing.

    Ah should've mentioned, 2UZ.

    Pulling the starter on a 5VZ is such a walk in the park from what I remember. Did you later fish the ball bearings out? Or just kind of leave them in there?
    Even with hands that fit in just medium sized gloves, I had a hell of a time getting to the two bolts holding my starter working in between the firewall and main wiring harness. :annoyed:

    With the 5 speed Ive read it is an easy job but not true with the Auto. On top of that, the difficulty is compounded 10x with Doug Thorley headers installed.

    Once we figured out what was going on we removed the inspection plate/cover and ran it that way for a short time. With the engine running, a couple were sprayed out almost immediately.

    I hear just installing those headers alone is a pain in the ass. I had stock headers on my auto.

    But yeah thanks, I could just pull the cover off and run it that way. I fully expected to pop it off and go checking with a magnet :rofl: with the vehicle off of course.

    I'll just pop it off and drive around that way for a bit just in case.

    Make a temporary knock sensor relocation plate. I've seen some guy on here do it on a 5VZ. It keeps you from pulling the intake to hook it up to good sensors.

    Many Nissan V6 owners relocate the KS until they can schedule a tear-down to get under the lower intake manifold.

    Hitachi sensors are easy to relocate due to having a hole in the middle.

    Jiffy Lube was happy to take my coolant last time I cleaned out the garage. Since I didn't need the container back, they said "just leave it on the ground outside and we'll deal with it." I'm sure that varies by store though.
