And then sometimes you just have to deal with it. Late season goat hunts in miserable conditions come to mind. Correct fitting boots are a must and that means only so much insulation. Not a lot of fun, but as long as you aren't getting frost bite.

For sitting in a stand though, either the oversize boots or if hiking in, insulated boot covers once you get there. I've done some late season mule deer hunts that required several hard miles of hiking in to where I would sit for most of the day. Boots that fit were a must, but always packed in some covers for either over the boot or with the boot off.

Just sweat a little. It’s a better trade off.

or, get there a half hour early and layer up as soon as you get to the stand.

Yea stalking is a different beast altogether. I’ve hunted temps where even hiking I had numb toes. Sometimes you just gotta suck it up and deal with it.

I’m too clumsy to goat hunt. I’d trip and fall to my death.

I’ve always had cold feet trouble. Last year I got the Lacrosse Alphaburly insulated boots (whatever the max insulation rating was - 1800g?). That with Darn Tough heavyweight socks has been a game changer for the super cold. It actually gets too warm if I’m moving much - perfect for sitting in a tree though.

And agree with others - I bought it a size up from my normal shoe size and wear only 1 pair of socks. My toes have space to move and breathe.

The nice thing about the late season hunts is deep snow pushes the goats down to an area that doesn't risk as much falling death. Just freezing to death. Did one hunt that I would keep a bottle of water inside my sleeping bag at night and it would have ice crystals in it by morning. That was a cold dang sleeping bag. Also had to remember when taking off your boots to make sure they were opened up as much as possible because they would be frozen solid when putting them on. Fun times.

Yea went to bed a few times with wet boots and woke up to ice blocks. God I hated those days.

never had a water bottle freeze in my bag overnight though

Gosh, when I was a young man insulated shoes were two or three pairs of socks. I've had some super cold feet. Then someone pointed out to me that you could get pac boots from Bill's Bait Shop in Evansville Indiana. I've never had cold feet since. With all the different options in insulated boots and socks I'm surprised this is a thing. When it is really cold, and I'm in the tree stand I wear these.

I can’t recommend enough the alphaburly pro insulated boots by lacrosse. I’ve got the 1800 gram insulated and the uninsulated. The only downside is they are heavy

My all around favorite were Sorel about 2 sizes over so I could add a second felt sole under the liner. Good on snowshoes, good for sitting for long spells. However there were no mountains to climb cruising timber in the UP. I think they would suck for that!! Loose and sloppy inside is good for insulation but probably bad for ankles on hills!

I really don't care what type of "Meat" is rotting. All of them can be quite disgusting and cause you to hurl your guts out if your not prepared. Yeah, dead rotting fish, no thanks, I'll pass on that one.

I always wanted to try a pair of articshield boot covers. But being a first class procrastinator I never got around to buying any. So my question is, have any of you current hunters ever tried these. Just curious.

I received a pair of those for Christmas many years ago but never used them so I sold them to my neighbor. They looked like they would be very warm however they are designed to carry in and not be worn to your stand. I travel as lightly as possible when I leave my vehicle, if I can’t carry something in my pocket or around my neck then it stays in my vehicle, no backpack no fanny pack.

People really don't talk about this topic enough. Everyone always has a recommendation for a product, but nobody wants to talk about circulation and blood flow. Whether its laces too tight or poor health in general, if you're not getting good blood flow to all parts of your body, you're always gonna be cold.

Being "healthy" and "in shape" doesn't always have to mean being a marathon runner or weightlifter. For us older farts who still choose to climb trees every fall/winter, its especially important that we're doing everything we can to stay limber and stretched, not just during season. I've gone way too many years of my life not taking my health seriously, and I'm still a fatass, but at least I'm a little more flexible fatass with better circulation lol. Do your stretches fellas, don't be content with legs/feet falling asleep just because you sat down. And who wants to have leg/feet cramps when you're halfway up a tree climbing.

I have a pair. They are very warm. Nice cause you can hike in and slide them on once you get set. They definitely help.

I used to always have cold feet hunting until I hunted with a guy who never tied his boots. He tied the strings so they wouldn't come out and just slipped his foot in. I started doing that with my insulated hunting boots and don't have cold feet anymore.

Figured out when I tied them my feet sweat from walking then they got cold when I sat.
