Just curious but has anyone had your portable JBL dash speaker stolen? I have heard a replacement speaker is over $200.

Mine's on a shelf in the garage because I don't want some homeless person to break my windows to get it when I visit my son in CA. I haven't noticed any difference in sound quality, but then, I'm not an audiophile.

$200 sounds about right for a replacement considering that it's going to have to come through Toyota.

The removable dash speaker is not one of Toyota's brightest moves. It's a minor annoyance in what I consider a great truck. It rattles. As you point out, it can be easily nabbed. I'm sure it'll break at some point. It's just a silly feature that causes more issues than it solves - a solution in search of a problem. Hoping there will be a nice wired aftermarket solution at some point.

No, not stollen and I like it quite a bit. I park outside for long bed can't fit in my garage, my work projects have me parked outside and at times doing overnight projects in retail places. No theft yet in addition to no rattles.

It can make some audio seem sound forward in the cab, it is great for podcasts and audio books. It seems best when Apple Music tracks are Spatial Audio though I'm not sure the system actually supports the Dolby Atmos content.

Overall I am a bit meh over this feature. My 21 year old son was enamoured of it, and I am sure it will be convenient to take out and put on a picnic table at some point. If it can connect to my RV stereo I'll be more interested/ happy to have it. However, myself and many folks buying this as part of a package probably already have a BT speaker they're taking around with them camping, etc. Wonder if you can hook one of those to the truck's system to stream music, sports, Sirius stations, etc.?

I have the same apprehension about the speaker being stolen. The sad part is the idiot that steals it (and damages the truck) will only have one use (if they know how to pair) because they won't be able to recharge it. Or they will most likely put it up for sale on Craigslist so you can re-buy the same unit. I generally disconnect mine when I know I'll be away from the truck a while or I end up in a seedy location - shopping malls parking lots :).

I will say a lot of people do seem to have issues with the removable speaker on delivery - the dealer 'lost' it, dealer 'forgot' to put it in the truck, dealer prep guy 'misplaced' it, factory 'forgot' to put it in the dash. I had to chase down my sales guy to get mine. And I agree with Tacowrench - it's useless to anyone who doesn't own a current generation - there's no way to charge it other than slapping it in the dash. Overall it's a dumb feature, especially when you can just get a cheap off-brand BT speaker on Amazon for less than $20 and a decent one for around $50.

Pretty sure it has a usb-c port to charge it outside the vehicle.

The only people stealing them work for Toyota.

Acutally, you can get the JBL BT speaker (which gets quite good reviews) on Amazon for $99. Just sayin...

Its not that obvious that its removable.
Dont think anyone is going to break into your truck & steal a speaker they can't charge..
But that's my rational logic, others may bash on me..

Yes. They had to order me a new one on my 24 TRD Sport. I think he said it was about 200.

I'm getting so annoyed by the way mine rattles in the dashboard and this thread and amped my anxiety about it getting stolen.
I'm thinking a dollop of construction adhesive underneath the speaker will solve both problems!

What's everyone's preferred adhesive? Loctite Power Grab? Liquid Nails Extreme? Or should I go for the really big primo stuff - PL Premium MAX!! ???

I'm gonna lock that bad boy down forever!!

others have suggested go to home depot and get some adhesive foam weatherstrip to take up the slack so it doesn't rattle.

I bet one of those little felt dots that go on the bottom of a coaster or lamp would work out well.
