Just got a taco box so don't really need the twin sticks anymore. May end up just running triple sticks if anything though. I actually moved back to Hawaii earlier this year so that may play a big factor on if someone would be willing to ship or not.

I may have jumped the gun lol. You're auto trans right? I'd have to swap the 23 spline shaft back in my case as well as remove my position switches. Then you run the risk of waiting for me to get your case installed before I send mine to you because my truck is back to being my daily. I may just run 3 sticks after all

I wouldn't trade anything that would have my truck down. Reread the post you quoted.

OK, OK. I need to decide by Friday if I am doing this. I need to get this truck wrapped up by early January as I've got a whole sh*tload of life hitting me mid-next year (for 2-3 years, maybe more) and I can't be dinking around with this thing much if at all after that. Everything is pulled apart for a OEM mega refresh and I am ready to start putting stuff back together starting this weekend, I need to know if I am going to detour from my plan of starting with getting the transmission back in first.

I'm a bit frantic at the moment so that's not helping, but I'm going through this thread as fast as I can but there's a lot, nothing is centralized, some dead links, and not a lot of discussion around AWD - I'm finding BassAckwards to be the one to pull this off (I see he did it, and found where he started around post 559 or so, trying to connect dots). It seems relatively straightforward, which is the only reason I am here. But is anything ever as simple as it seems?

Here's what I know (please correct if I am wrong). If there is anything mechanically more involved than this, like custom made anything or opening up the transfer case, it's a no-go - too involved, too much to go wrong but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    • I need the transfer case, shifter/selector, upper and lower boots from a 6MT FJC - with one hole put in the floor, it will bolt up and install without a hitch
    • I need F/R driveshafts from an 750F 2G (per BassAckwards #2422)

Here's what I still don't know, or at least not 100% confidently:

    • Wiring..is there any, beyond "two wires for the dash indicator lights" as I think I read somewhere?
    • Can I leave the 4WD ECU and stock selector switch in to keep the ADD engaged, and retain locker, A-TRAC functionality, etc? And eventually 2-lo of sorts if I twin stick this thing?

Im not sure for the AWD part of it. But if you have a TRD OR you will need to do anytime locker mod. There should be 2 ways to keep front ADD engaged- FJC diff tube to delete the ADD, or manually slide the fork over and put it back together. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

wouldn't you lose 2Lo if you do awd? And I also think ATRAC is not tied to the 4wd computer. Twin stick AWD is that a thing?

There would be no point to keep the 4wd ECU if your doing a manual TCase swap unless you would want to do alot of trickery to make it happy and get it to shift the ADD. You would either have to rig up a relay and switch to control it, convert the ADD to cable shift, lock it and leave it locked, or swap in an FJ tube with no ADD.

As for the ABS, Traction Control, and A-Trac the Skid Control ECU has 3 inputs from the 4wd system, EXI4 (4wd), EXI (Low Range), and EXI3 (Rear Diff Lock). These are pull-down circuits meaning they are grounded in each mode.

The ECM is also has inputs from the 4wd and Low (auto only) circuits, I'm not sure the purpose of the 4wd input but the Low input is for modified shift scheduling in Low Range.

Brain fart on twin stick - no point with AWD (if even possible). But manual control of ADD achieves the same basic thing..with the inherent risk of actuator failure. Initially would probably just engage and disconnect for simplicity.

ATRAC is run by ABS, but is a 4-LO function only AFAIK; would need to fool the rest of the truck in to thinking it's in low range. ATRAC anytime would be an interesting possibility..

Funnily enough, with manual transfer case actuation, I don't care about 4WD/Low dash lights - but I don't want error codes/CEL or lost functionality. Sounds like ATRAC might be the only thing in question?

With my timeframe and need for reliability, engaging and disconnecting is probably my best option here..

I know just enough about electronics to get myself in trouble, but - is my interpretation correct in that this would be as simple as grounding those circuits to get those respective systems operating as needed..?
