I was so efficient at ford...
By Wednesday, im banking the hours for the jobs I just finished until Monday so I have a cushion & didn't need to stress...
Release the job to the customer since its warranty but writer doesnt send it to ford until Monday after we get back from the weekend.
    my method of stress management....
Service writer hated doing it sometimes, but they got with the program...

For what it's worth - the added MPG of a turbo engine is offset by the extra cost of turbo maintenance. They typically last 150-200k miles, at which point, it's about a 1500$ repair (using the ranger as a baseline).

So, the extra MPG (which is basically non-existent) is completely offset by the maintenance costs. BUT the EPA numbers are better out of the factory, so turbo it is! In the meantime, you have to live with a turbo, which is unforgiving on maintenance schedule and could shorten that 150k-200k mile lifetime.

Definitely better for towing and at altitude, etc - and I get those selling points, but if you're looking for an A to B machine, I'd get an NA engine for as long as the EPA lets us. I'd be in a new frontier instead of a new Tacoma, if it was my money on the line.

I'm going to take a Frontier for a ride. I have a friend in CA that is a Nissan mechanic and he has only good things to say so far. My other friend runs King cab Frontiers for his fleet trucks and is also happy with them. Aesthetically speaking I don't like the body style at all. That's why I'm leaning towards the 2023 Tacoma. No turbo, no dealership add ons like a $700 "tracking device" and all the other sneaky shit they pull. Once I have cash in hand I can jump on something good. Been truckless for 109 days and counting!

Frontiers have heavy steering, according to one owner I know. But I haven't driven one. Keep an eye on that, among other things. You drove your truck for 2k ish miles, you know what the 2024 tacos are like. The 2023 AT shifting issues are a LOT better after an ECU update, I have a 2020 that drives WAY better than it used to. Still hunts a bit in cruise control at high speeds, sequential 5th and it's a smooth ride.

Worrying about a possible $1500 repair in a decade? There’s any number of possible $1500 repairs on any engine. Just seems like a small thing to worry about on a $50k long-term purchase

The heavy steering seems to be the common complaint about that truck. I absolutely love how the 2024 looks, rides and feels. Love the cockpit set up. And I normally only buy new. I know my issue was definitely a freaky one-off thing but just leaves me understandably gun shy. I contacted 2 dealerships in Vegas and a couple in northern Utah to see what they can find for me.

I am sure, not in your experience, but I am sure the new 4th gens are very nice trucks.

However, after driving my wife's new 2024 Tiguan last night in the snow with all this electronic crap, sensors, you name it, it makes me love my 2017 Taco even more. The 2017 is such a pleasant drive without safety sense or nanny crap; beeps, vibrations, sensors going out in heavy snow, its all very distracting. As soon as I got home, I switched to my truck and go pickup the kiddo and came away happier. It was my turn to get the new car, but I opted to keep my truck and she upgraded from the Subie to better appointed VW. Overall, I know I cannot avoid the nanny / tech crap on my next truck, but I really enjoy my 2017. Best of luck on the next vehicle.

You can turn off all the driving aides if you really want to. I haven't found them obtrusive enough to even consider it.

I might need a flak jacket
Thank you. When I got into the 2024 and experienced some of the new technology and I didn't like it. Lane centering threw me off big time. Where they put the truck and where I put the truck were different, maybe only by inches, but it felt so out of my control and weirdly I found myself leaning to one side to compensate for their driving!! I used to buy only fords and every model I got had same simple analog dash and systems. It was easy. We will see. Thank you for the well wishes

It's not so much the worry about the repair, it's the cost-benefit of a turbo to the consumer, which is no benefit, and an actual cost. The net $ is a cost for the consumer, ignoring if there's any up front added cost for a turbo. The MPG savings are outweighed by the general maintenance costs of a turbo.

Meh, I'd wait out the 24s still. Your case seems egregious, but there's more than a few smaller complaints and issues going around on them that will work out in the 25s and 26s. The frontier is at that 1-2 years past a new generation mark (ignoring that stupid frankentruck that was 2020).

You need to turn certain stuff off evetime you drive. Overall, wifey likes them (auto high beams, cruise control, lane assist, lights on mirrors when cars are next you ect...), I personally hate it and find it distracting. I could be wrong, but isn't this "safety" crap forced on us a government mandates for the manufacturers? Adds to higher costs, more shit to break, etc... Unfortunately, I do not believe it avoidable.
