Hoping the snowfall isn't bad for your area

The Cumberland Plateau which is in Eastern Tennessee is expected to see some snowfall

Morning. Haven’t post in a few. Been navigating the last days of school before Winter Break. In the midst, my wife was let go as a medical assistant after 29.5 years at the same family practice. Office manager has been targeting her for two years now. Work had become a hostile environment. The union attorney said we can fight and will win but would lose benefits and retirement…but wife is tired and wants to move on. She has two interviews as an elementary school health tech on the 3rd. Hopefully she can end her career in a better place and find some joy. Stay Well…Stay Safe

    Good morning.
1 more day until Winter Solstice. It's snowing a bit right now, doesn't seem to be sticking to the roads.

I've been trying to find a bag of springs for Rugbys Christmas present, none of the local pet stores have them nor did Tractor Supply or Target.

Its bad enough when snow starts in southern states but seems like every year northern state drivers lose their minds like they never seen snow before...

Always a mystery to me. We haven't had real 'weather' here yet, just occasional spitting, like today. IDOT BURIES the roads in salt. Still, accidents everywhere. It's barely even 32, roads aren't icing, yet collisions abound. I blame cell phones.

Thank you, we could both use a much better 2025 :)

Yeah, the concept of HR people being so incredibly bad at communicating with candidates once they have started the interview process in 2024 has become so notoriuos, LinkedIn and Facebook Reels are jammed with people talking about it. They are calling it "ghosting". Of the 30 - 40 companies I have interviewed with this year, every one of them has been unresponsive once I had an initial interview. I usually wait at least a full week, then I send the HR person an email asking for a status update. Usualy within another 3 days they respond, normally with "we have selected another candidate...." This one was much, much worse. Also, I know it is very common for American companies to cancl all hiring in the last couple months of the year, as they decide to save the money until the next year, and postpone hiring for another 2 - 3 months. As this last one was a European company, I had not expected this from them, but it is certainly no surprise.

    Thank you :)

    Thank you :)

    Thank you, and agreed!

    Thank you :)

Thank you. We'll make it through, It may be a long time before we can buy another place. If I lose my VA loan eligibility, it may take years to save up enough for a down payment for a normal mortgage.
    Thank you :)
    Thank you :)
I'm pretty sure my age (57) is hurting my chances with finding a new job. In my 30+ years in the Information Technology field, I can count the number of non-executive level IT people I have encountered that are age 60+, on one hand. Also, while companies very much want my extensive experience, they are mostly offering entry level salaries. I've interviewed for quite a few positions that didn't list the salary range in the job posting, and then when I interview with their HR person, I find out they are often paying only 1/2 of what I had been making at my last job. I am not hung up on any specific number,, but in order to make my mortgage and wife's Highlander payments, I need to make at least 85% of what my last job was paying.

Also, there are no employers closer than 100 miles away that have any kind of IT that I have any experience with. I have always worked for huge companies (10,000+ employees), and I have always done "enterprise level" IT stuff, not the lower end things like laptop support, printer support,... so it would take me some time to be able to learn those skills, so unlikely any employer would hire me for such a role. Not to mention it would not pay anywhere near enough.

    Thank you, Chuck. :)

    Thank you :)

Hope you all are staying warm and have a great weekend!
