Ain't afraid of them. I just think it's dumb. They're going to be a 150-200k maintenance item, and the cost benefit to the consumer isn't there. They're great for hitting EPA/CAFE metrics off the factory floor, but an NA V6 will be better for the consumer. Same MPG, without a turbo to replace in 150-200k, for a cost that is more than the (in some cases) gas savings that you've had over that time. :notsure:

And many 3.5s will need a $1500 repair in those 200k miles also. Timing cover leaks, coolant pipes, valve cover leaks, etc

But for that risk, the 2.4t gives a vastly better driving, towing and hauling experience.

How about a Ford F-150 with the 5.0 V8? Sort of like a classic Tundra, but new.

I just don’t understand why we are going to insane lengths to make turbo chargers and hybrid assist to make the same horsepower as a small V8 and having automatic transmissions with 10 gears in a truck where a five or six speed automatic works the same if not better.

Because we (as a society) want big, powerful, and efficient.

the idea of being aghast at moving parts counts, sensors and electronics but desiring a coyote 5.0 is laughable. We design engines for high cylinder pressures. They’ll be fine with a little boost.

just a couple of things tbh
never stated that one lol i was just stating about the jeeps. my dad is the same as him thou and dislikes and doesnt want turbo vehicles unless its his diesel truck lol
correct i have not driven the 2.7 in a ranger but can imagine it being a ton of fun!

since its fun in my f150 i do wish it would tow a bit more thou... i get its the smaller v6 but its only like 1k or 1500 more towing capacity then a mid size but oh well it tows anything i ever need to tow and is super comfy to drive and gets good mpg for a full size truck on 33s lol.

now the trans in my old ranger until it finally failed shifted fine with the 10spd and never felt like the truck searched or did what the 3rd gen tacos do so i loved it but did find it odd to have 10 gears but it was to get mpg and be more efficient..

the 6r80 did have some early on issues but we are talking early on my trucks gen was the end of the 6r80. in 2018 and up everything had the 10r80 trans and in the f150 it seems to shift fine and i have no issues with it buuuut after being burned by the 10r80 i didnt want another lol.
but but can we have both with boost lol v8 with turbo lets goooo haha

All the talk of trading Toyotas for other Toyotas I suspect thats what really sells the Tundra, if you look at a 55k 4G Tacoma, then look at a 65k ADM 5G 4R Pro, and a 65-70k MSRP base LC 250 a new Tundra makes perfect sense.

The difference between 55k and 70k is pretty significant to me.

I'd say Toyota's pricing tier confirms that people who shop Tacoma and 4R/GX vehicles often drive off in a Tundra. I agree 25k makes a significant difference. If I'm looking at a 5G Pro with a 10k ADM and a 70k Tundra with a 10k duscount I might go with the Tundra. Unless I really want the last generation of a halo Toyota truck.

There's that but the sales numbers are there, and if the truck is on the lot some people might prefer that to trying to secure an allocation.

Who has that kind of money?

I just looked at the GX, too expensive.

Land Cruiser hybrid is okay, and they were willing to knock $5500 off the base price because apparently nobody wants the damn things. The hybrid battery hump is ridiculous and my wife can’t reach into the cargo area, so it’s a no go.

Right now I’m hoping the new non-hybrid 4runner can be had for the mid 40s after discount. My dealer claim the first few coming into the dealership are pre-sold, even though there are no VIN numbers yet.

the issue is the truck it self.. my buddies 22 made a nice little window in the block and toyota after a few month fight bought the truck back. another buddy had a 23 and it also made a little window and is currently in the process of a buy back... its not a great looking truck and atm not looking good for long term..
