    The Endowment Effect:

A behavioral concept that refers to how people tend to assign a greater value to an object that they own, rather than an object that they don’t.

In the case of the redesign, this phenomenon can lead users to prefer the existing version and experience aversion towards the new one.

This site is a case study in it.

Makes sense, my friend was a mechanic for many years and said one of his biggest headaches with the profession is people that design things but don't work on them or care to think about that part of the package. He said "if it saves half a second or half a penny on the assembly line it's great, but they made hours of extra work for me to replace a piece that's expected to need replacement in time"

Good to know that there really wasn't anything you did wrong. Except choose a different installer next time.

Yes, absolutely. When it came out in 2005....the second gen "was too big", "bloated", "too bubbly", "it will never last like the trusty 3.4", "the 4.0 is underpowered", " too many electronics, they'll be dead in 10 years"....were some of the criticism I saw.

I have experienced the latter more often than the former. I never called them dumb, but rather they keep a rather callous, ignorant attitude towards the maintenance department as if we're subpar to them.

I surmise there was something about nobody wants a regular cab anymore either

There absolutely was when they killed the regular cab for the 3rd gen. You could still get a regular cab for the 2nd Gen though.

That's just it, I bet when the 2G first dropped it was said. I am (sadly) well aware it's long gone, I love mine.

They actually killed the RC somewhere around 2014 if my memory serves me.

Would you hear a clunking noise while entering a steep grade or driveway prior to this event ?

No other signs, I only had a few hundred miles on the suspension when it broke.

You have any icon diff drop ?

I recently installed one. Followed instructions to the T. It didn't work. Created vibrations on the driver side. I removed it and reinstalled original and sound went away.

I think this guy had the same thing bit he never noticed the vibrations

Wow. That is insane. Did you take pictures to make sure that was true ? Also which bolt was missing ? Driver side or passenger side ? Imo. You wouldn't have been able to go more then 1 mile without noticing a loud vibration.
