I haven't found any that are very hot, usually I find them to give a perfect tingle.

Ate at this place today, an absolute hole in the wall but amazing burgers, HUGE, with green chilis. Place is in a podunk town but famous, and rightly so.


The green chile cheeseburgers at the Buckhorn achieved widespread fame in the late 2000s. Buckhorn Tavern’s burger was rated No. 7 Burger in America by GQ Magazine in 2005 and No. 3 “Baddest Burger in the Land” by the Nightlife Flavor Roundup on the Marlboro.com website.

The Buckhorn has been featured in New Mexico Magazine, Sunset Magazine and as No. 1 Burger in the West by Saveur Magazine, and also in Everyday with Rachael Ray Magazine.

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay lost his Throwdown With Bobby Flay at the Buckhorn Tavern in 2009. The cable show gave the Buckhorn nationwide exposure, and the restaurant has seen its best business ever. In honor of the event, New Mexico’s then Governor Bill Richardson, declared July 24 as New Mexico Buckhorn Tavern Day, proclaiming that the state’s revenue in green chile sales was way up for the year.

Of course i was out that way shooting birds, the annual Crane Festival was going on at the Bosque del Apache, and i had to get some photos.

 

Their burgers are pretty tasty! We ate there in February when we took my mom to Bosque del Apache. It's a pretty amazing wildlife preserve.

Pretty much the same thing we were doing it's nice that it's only 1.5 hrs from home, so I know I'll be back one more time before the spring migration starts.

Look I'm definitely not the type to take pictures of my food, sorry dude. But Google has pictures of it. For scale that's a 1/2 thick patty.

 

Great. Now I'm hungry for a smash burger.

Actually it's by the same dude that did the food truck at my wedding.

Merry Xmas dude! Was a good time of year, ended up with a Garmin inreach which I think is a great addition to the kit. Have to do a couple repairs in the van before I head back to NM but overall a good trip. Hope your family is doing well!

Like I have the van but no more Foley plate.

 

I love that NM license plates have a chili on them.

 

Definitely a step up from famous potatoes, but I like the regular, turquoise one more.

 

I have really enjoyed that they put chilies on everything here. My gf was telling me you can get a green chili burger at McDonald's even, which kinda blew me away. This place loves em. Ironically I don't have the chili plate on the truck, which is now, chili colored

I wasn't a fan of the standard Idaho plate, I preferred their plate from the 80s where it was white with green text. SIMPLE. So I ran the Forestry plate for a long time, and still do on the green truck. That truck I'm planning to keep on those plates for a while. I don't understand why states won't give us just simple black and white plates, they look the best, this was the closest to it.

 

Colorado came out with a basic black plate a year ago, and they're everywhere now. I think they're the most boring plate you can get.
