I can tell you that pellet stove your folks have is mighty nice!

 

Well, that weekend was absurdly fast! This week I have work tomorrow, then off until Friday… it’s going to be either very slow or super crazy!

 

What temperature is officially "too cold" to pour concrete? I'm just curious.

 

There are a bunch of chemicals we can use when it gets super cold out as well as carrying hot water on the trucks… that said, if it’s in the teens we most likely will close.

Personally, if I were pouring at my property I would never pour over the winter.

Well that's no bueno, I need to have a foundation poured most likely in late January or early February to replace our sunroom that was destroyed by a tree during TS debby in August. Carroll county won't issue permits without that concrete pad. Dont really wanna wait till it warms up.

 

Don’t get me wrong… you can definitely pour during the winter. But, if the contractor uses the wrong mix to save money on their end or adds too much water to make working it easier for them… well, it can go wrong quickly. There are just too many added factors that hit more so in winter that can cause issues down the road. Concrete that is too wet in winter will freeze and crystallize before it’s fully cured. Even if it seems warm enough during the day, that evening when temps plummet, well that’s when the issues start.

If you can wait, wait. If you can’t and it must be done… I’d watch the forecast and try to schedule during warmest days possible.

And use a reputable contractor, someone that specializes in concrete work… not just a builder that says they “can do it.” Remember, winter is their slow season. They’ll take any and all jobs they can to have a little revenue coming through their doors right now.

Lots of factors at play with this project, the biggest being the sunroom contractor has a local sub they always use and "trust". It's also an insurance driven project, not something I really recommend going thru if one can avoid it.

Not exactly sure who the sub is yet. But the sunroom contractor is one of the big ones.

Maybe on the plus side, everything will be under the scrutiny of insurance and mortgage companies and a contractor warranty.
