I was inspecting / cleaning my air filter and I noticed something I had not previously...

There is a small hole in my air box. It looks like it is intended to be there. It is located at the bottom close to one of the fasteners. (See pic below).

This provides access to outside air on the 'dirty' side of the air filter so it is really no different than the standard intake point - as far as air quality. It does, however, provide an easier access point for water - I would think.

Not that I would be fording water that deep for fun - but still it seems odd that such a hole would be there at all...

Is this in all out Tacos? - Or just mine? It looks like it is part of the molding - not a puncture or impact break.

Does anyone have any insight on whether there is a purpose for this?

Man! You are on it!

I typed it in on the PC - but loaded the pics from the phone - it only took me 30 seconds! :)

    Drain.

Ford had some issues with their ecoboosts [3.5] that would build up water in the filter box and cause issues. All one needed to was drill a small hole to allow the water to drain before it built up.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
It's not like there is that much water in that part of the engine compartment (unless you submerge it).

It’s the Venturi effect, destabilizing the air flow, adding an additional 10hp gain per imprint.

We use to call it the swiss cheese mod back in the day. Gave the intake a louder/throatier sound when we were too poor to afford a real intake.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Two-way breather for the air box. I'm going to do a relocate mod.

Brilliant idea... If you nose into a lake up to the fuel tank, then your engine will still be able to get air from the tail lamp location!

It's not like I can flip the air filter cover upside down like I could in the V-8 era. Do that with a quadrajet and one could imagine you were in a harrier jet taking off listening to the moan of the secondaries opening up.
