You can adjust the top flap of the rear door on the SP so there is no gap on top of the tailgate. M6 screws raise and lower that flap on the inside of the door.

I meant on the sides of the tailgate near the top. The interface between the SP and the tailgate is tight. The gap is between tailgate and bed. But like I said, not much water coming in through there.

5ft or 6ft bed? Mine will be (sadly) going up for sale soon. I'm in Central WA.

As far as water - honestly I've had minimal issues over the years mostly just from a few early design changes from SP that they then fixed on my camper, but otherwise, the most water i see is from the bedrails and the tailgate seal (both are really not significant to me, but could be better corrected if they were really bothersome.) Most camper-bed interface issues can be solved with butyl tape. Beyond that the camper is pretty well designed to handle rain - even down to the side door channels that keep water from finding its way inside.

Tacomas have a bed rail along the front of the bed that is removable. I think that is a major place water can get in. I did a pretty hardcore job of sealing everything else but still get plenty of water inside the front of the bed. Guess what I forgot to seal? Unfortunately it is too much of a PITA to take the camper off and seal that now. On the other hand, I am fortunate to live in Socal where this isn't an issue very often - usually just when I wash the truck.

i tossed the stock plastic bedrail caps and went with relentless fabs bed caps. Put down window/door flashing and a couple rows of butyl tape between the truck bed and bed caps. The front section i matched the width of the relentless fab bed caps (1/8"?) with a piece of alumunim flatbar & sikaflex 221'd and screwed that down

with all that it takes a serious driving rain to drip in on me

stationary and positioned flat and level it's bone dry. Far more issues with condensation than rain intrusion, which is pretty typical even with vents open/fan going in the PNW when you start camping in near-freezing temps in humid areas (OR coast range during winter)

I dud just about the same to weatherproof. With the diesel heater going condensation is nill. I put a USB fan at the slider window downstairs pulling fresh air in and let the moist air leave through the tent vents. That does really good for me

Been a while since I posted a build update here. I ended up going with a 1" 8020 build with ACM panels and flip tops instead of drawers.

I also want to say that this is my first time every building anything like this. I took my inspiration from Johnny Taco's build video, but bought all of the extrusion locally and cut it all myself, figured out how to put it all together along the way.

    20240716_190130.jpg
Before flip tops went in on the driver side. I did a shit job at recording the process of blueprinting, measuring, cutting and putting all this stuff together, but i'll share what I got.

    20240717_192005.jpg

I used a 1/2" sheet of treated plywood for the base coated in a later of spray on Raptor bed liner and just bolted everything to it.

    20240717_211406.jpg

I installed these @mattgecko LEDs back in 2020 as bed lighting. The strips held up well exposed to the elements for 4 years. Now they serve as awesome cargo lighting. Also, as you can see, I left the passenger side with open tops so that I can utilize the passthrough panels as benchtops when not in use. Its been great!

    20240718_162843.jpg

When I picked up my SP, I asked for a can of touch up paint to paint all of these ACM panels and a scrap of the tent material to upholster the fliptops in. I just bought some high density 1" foam from Amazon and stapled/glued the tent material on over it. The fliptops are 3/8" plywood bases with simple cabinet hinges.

    20240718_203905.jpg

I incorporated a Lagun table, bolting the leg to the front center ACM panel. I found this foldable tabletop on my local FB Marketplace. Paid $100 for it and the base that connects to the leg. CA Vans charges $300 for it which is just stupid. But at $100 and it stowing away small, i'm happy with it.

    20240718_203924.jpg

A view from the top looking down.

    20240808_183501.jpg

Fast forward a few weeks and this is the final product. I bought @A_Baum92881's lighting kit and mounted a few things on the molle panels and gone on a few trips.

    My layout for storage is:
kitchen stuff, stove, dishes, etc.. rear driver fliptop.

Extra camp chair, devos 2000 light, popup pit, folding table, lagun table top and shittco tent poles.. mid/front driver side

Cabside driver's corner is my battery system. I originally had an Inergy Flex 1500 with 2000wh, but just recently upgraded to the Bluetti AC200L with 2000wh and their Charger 1 alternator charger.

Cabside middle has a panel with a 12 fuse BlueSea block and an AuxBeam fusebox installed onto it along with extra warm stuff storage.

Cabside passenger is water storage, 2 Dometic GO 3Gal containers

Big bag of tools/ropes/straps/general revovery gear.. front middle passenger

And a 1.5 ton Pro Eagle strapped to the 1/2" plywood using big ass quickfist straps, alao throw a step stool, jumper cables and a krazy beaver shovel in there.. rear passenger storage.

The plywood base is floating, not attached to the bed. I've got at least 300lbs of gear weighing it down and it's a snug fit as is. I have gotten about 25 nights in the build so far and I definitely feel dialed in with it.

Looks awesome! If I can recommend, since I had a large solar generator take a shit on a trip I'm using 2 750watt hour for the heater & fridge & a 250 for lights & charging phones etc. If your big one fails there is no backup

I appreciate the tip. I might make a spot for my Jackery 500 for longer trips to use as a back up if need be!

    Your typical overlander mods
How do those braces preform? Seem pretty stout! Looking at adding some braces to my rear door as the window makes it a bit more flimsy than I’d like and love that idea! It’s either that or send a drawing over to send-cut-send for some braces to be made.

So far so good. My buddy and I went winter camping at 10,000 feet by Skaguay reservoir this past weekend. Lots of bumpy roads in and out. Heater is solid in place with the braces. Happy to send you a set for a reasonable price. The bars themselves are fairly $ for what they are, because they came black anodized from 8020.net (about twice the price as the silver color).

A couple of notes on Starlink Mini.

If you want internet anywhere with a dish that fits in a Super Pacific sidekick door bag perfectly, buy one.

If you need a slick mount for when you get there, hit up KeeganBuilds on Etsy for one of these 3D printed mounts made specifically for our SPs.

If you don't want to run your dish on your dash in your cab while driving, or hard mount in on top of the tent, exposed to the elements, toss is up in the Super Pacific bed area and close the tent down.

With the pole mount installed on the Starlink and mattress, sheet and blanket underneath it, the tent closes with no issue. The Starlink beam shoots straight through the roof of our shell and I am getting 100+mpbs in the cab of the truck.

A stick-on level was one of my first purchases when I got the truck. I put it outside like that. Then realized how annoying it was to have to get out and look at it. I now have two, one stuck to the inside of the door and another on the visor. Works great and I never have to get out to check for level.
