Idk, I don't do swaps or major mods like that. I can tell you how the stock systems work all day long but all that goes out the window with modded stuff, that's why I tend to try to avoid getting involved in such things.

If you've done the anytime locker mod, as illustrated, you've swapped the sensors from your Tacoma case into the AWD case, the only other wiring thing to do to get the 4Lo light to work is to (I edited the part about the 4x4 light as you will have AWD and likely don't need/want that to be on all the time).

For the record, the instructions above say there are differences for 05-08 and 08-11 but I found the colors for 08-11 were the same for my 2014.

I removed my 4x4 ECU (for massive weight savings).

Is this strictly for the dash light or does this do the right grounding to get ATRAC back in the game as well (or is that done via the TC sensors)?

[missed the bit about the early 2G wiring being good to go on your '14 - uncertainty deleted]

I'm ~97% go on this. Going to reach out about some other lower mile cases tomorrow but I think it seems very doable..thanks again everyone!!

Sorry, can't help you with ATRAC. I've just got a lowly SR5 so that was never on my radar.

Good luck and please make sure you post your findings and progress. Not much AWD info out there.

I have a TRD sport, but wiring up the Tcase sensors made it where my vsc shuts off off when shifting into low. I’m not sure how much different the system with the TRD off road is though

Absolutely will. Probably going to be a learn-while-contributing sort of thing but will try to make a lessons learned and conclusions wrap-up post, either here or maybe in a separate thread since most of these 157 pages are for the conventional 4WD cases.

This sounds promising. I haven't yet studied the previously posted schematics, but in my head it might be a logic of, "ok, I am in low range as stated by this sensor; I can make this button available to turn on/off a function controlled by ABS now" sort of thing. We'll see! :D

Well, here we go. Plunked down for a MY11 case/shifter this afternoon, sight unseen and more than I wanted to spend; but should be here next week-ish, depending on holiday shenanigans. Guy assured me, "I pulled this one myself! Super clean truck, this is the one you want." I bet you say that to all the girls...I guess I was feeling both trusting and generous today. Local shop gave me decent quotes to modify my existing driveshafts, although if I go that route I'll wait until everything is installed and acting/sounding normally before getting anything chopped; although something tells me to get different shafts so I have a way out already on hand in case it all goes to hell..

Can I pickup a 23 spline input shaft from one of our 6MT friends? I’m wanting to put the AWD VF4B from the manual transmission FJ into my new-to-me 1GR A750 during a PreRunner to 4x4 conversion, I don’t have a case to pull from. Preferably looking for the whole planetary gear set and swapped rear ring, if anyone did theirs this way.

I have a 23 spline input out of my old donor FJ case you are welcome to try. none of the ring and planetaries though. You'd need to swap some clips and seals and stuff from the 22 spline input in the AWD case.

I'm watching to see how yours goes even if may not be in the cards for my 3G. I'm curious what you end up doing with the shifter to make it work. I guess bend it?

I wanted to buy an FJ shifter for the RA61F, but I couldn't find one cheap. I was thinking/wondering if the FJ one might plop right down into my shift tower and give me the clearance I needed, so that all I had to do for the t-case was make a hole in the floor. I imagine the RA60F in the 2G puts the shifter in about the same spot as my 3G relative to the transfer case, so I'd imagine whatever you need to do, would be similar to what I'd need to do.

Yeah, he went part time though and his is auto which is way different than mine as far as dealing with the interior and shifter stuff goes.

That would be sweet, thank you. So my understanding is transfer all the planetary stuff over from the VF4B, find a ring gear and the 23 spline female adapter. Oh and the plate.

I’m very interested in hearing how this goes - please keep us posted if you are able to make this work. I’d like to do the same swap on my 2wd 4Runner

Scratch the "plate" off from my list, I misunderstand a post referring to the 6MT and not the t-case.

Ugh. When I ordered they said it would be delivered today which made the $300 freight sting a little less as I'd be able to get this largely wrapped up over the holiday; called this afternoon to get a tracking number as it's being delivered to my work, and now it's changed to "we didn't wind up getting it out Friday, they might pick it up on the 27th, but probably next Monday, you should see it towards the end of next week." Or in other words..right when I go back to work.

Maybe I glossed over it though, but I thought BassAckwards' install showed the FJ TC shifter going just up to the right of the stock shifter and he just poked a hole in the 6 speed boot - this might be a AWD FJ shifter thing vs PT4WD?

I’m running the 6spd FJ interior boot but I’ve run both part time 4wd and full time AWD cases with the shifter to the right side without modifications needed to the tcase shifter. I am running the TRD short shifter though

I forget the details but I want to say there is less clearance on the RC series transmissions.

I do know for sure the FJ has a leftward hook in the RA61F shifter to make room for the transfer case…I’d have to find pics of it again to share though.

there is a chance it would work on mine, but I’d probably need a short throw shifter, which I don’t really want.
