Looking to install a tach on my 04 manual, it doesn’t have one in the cluster. After doing reading wires are different colors and different locations depending on vehicle trim and engine.

Has anyone installed a tach on this exact vehicle? Where did you tap into the signal wire from?

Should be no difference in the wiring between one with a tach and one without. I believe the clusters are different between a 4 cyl and 6 cyl engine though.

A v6 yach wont work on a 4cyl unless it's reprogrammed. I offer that service if you need it.

    interesting!
so an appropriate yr/model/bolt in 5VZ cluster with tach could plug and play?
(if sent to you to reprogram RPM signal to a 2RZ)

    does matter if 4X4 V6 cluster? (if going into a 2WD 2.4L)
    thanks

nOT SURE IF IT'S 100% BOLT IN. I'd have to look at the diagrams. Don't believe it matters 4x4 or 2wd as long as its not a column shift.

can confirm 4x4/2wd are interchangeable. Both clusters i bought were supposed to have come from 4x4 trucks and swapped right into my 5 lug.

Big note just for clarification though - 95-97 are mechanical speedo and 98-04 are electronic so those do NOT interchange. If you're looking for a cluster for your 96, you'd have to get one that came from a 95-97. I don't know how the odometer would work on that one but I assume you would just swap the rollers to keep your mileage accurate.

@mechanicjon since the reprogramming is done in the digital odometer module, are the 95-97 clusters programmable since they have the mechanical rollers?

No only the digital ones are reprogrammable.
