    I can wake up early all weekend, without an alarm, on my own terms just fine.

    When I have to wake up because an alarm tells me to, to go do stuff for someone else....I get irritated. lol

    If you want to talk about the benefits of unions, just ask someone from Mercury Marine who was working there in 2009. The company shafted the workers real bad. The union was just trying to keep what they had. Over the years the union was able to get back most of what they lost. Now because of Act 10 some of the ungrateful employees opt out of the union. Yes the union does have to represent those people.
    Paying $77.00 + a mouth is alot for dues, but it's nice knowing you've got a Union to back you up.

    I hear the drivers make good money, but I have no idea what people consider "good money" anymore. I make more money than I ever thought I would as an electrician. But, between inflation, the economy, and my own poor decision making, I feel like I'm just scraping by most of the time.:anonymous:

    Exactly. A lot of the time I can pretty much set my own schedule. We get a decent amount of PTO. And, I have a four-wheel drive full size truck that I can use however I like that I don't pay a penny for.

    I am definitely not anti-union. I hope it did not come off that way. As I mentioned, even though I am not in the electrical union, I do benefit from them indirectly. And, depending on what industry I would get into if I weren't an electrician, I wouldn't hesitate to join a union if it ended up being beneficial to me.

    I'd gladly pay $77/month if our Union did anything. But AFSCME are less than useless. I'm still around 25% under prevailing wage for my job

    I need your job.

    James, it was not ment to sound like that. Sorry if it did.
    I have respect for anyone in the Trades. Your job is made harder because of regulations and the fact that fewer young people are going down that road.
    But that's another discussion.

    Merry Christmas my friend :santa::cheers:

    No worries! As with anything, it seems like there are always pros and cons on either side.

    Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

    I also have no idea. When I was younger, I always thought $100k would feel like you are living like a king and you could do anything, now I think it’s more like $250k+..

    We are making a lot more but not really any better off because we are spending a lot more as vehicle and housing prices have doubled in the last 10-15 years.

    I feel like I'm just scraping by and have to skimp and save everywhere I can but my finance guy just told me that early retirement is looking very doable. :notsure:

    I mean, obviously a lot of stuff can change in the next 20 years but it's nice to know I may be better off than I feel like I am.

    My buddy was forced to pay into the union at work (meat cutter) and they allegedly can't do anything when management outright bullies and abuses the workers. They're literally just pocketing the dues and making leadership rich until they decide to leave the union and jump to management.
