2022 TRD OR 6MT TRD Pro Shift Knob

Can anyone tell me why the TRD Pro 6MT shift knob (part number

$99 PTR57-35171 TRD Pro Manual Shift Knob, 1 Pack

PTR57-35171) won’t work for my truck?

That part number always shows as “will not fit” for my truck. Says it only works for 2017-2020 6MT trucks. I thought all of the 6MT 3rd gen’s were basically the same.

 

It fits, I ordered that for my old Taco same year as yours. You’ll be good to go.

That makes sense, thanks! For the life of me, I don’t understand how Toyota thinks that circumcised excuse of a shift knob that was OEM on my truck is acceptable.

This knob I’m asking about will be the 4th for this truck. I’m hopeful it’s the “forever knob”.

 

I think the Pro Knob was the same from 2017 all the way through 2023.

The one I ordered looks similar to that. There's an AT and an MT version that looks similar...If I had to guess, I would think the only differences between the two would be the MT version has a shift pattern on the top. BAM Wholesale had the OEM MT version for $86, so that's what I ordered. I hope I get it next week, but I kind of expect it sometime in early January.

There was a span of time (years), where these just simply weren't available from OEM sources. I'm pretty happy to get one ordered.

 

If my truck came with that knob I would've swapped it out too! I've got the OEM TRD shift knob and have had no desire to swap it out. It looks fine and is ergonomic.

 

Anyone know if the black ring under the knob shown here on the 4th gen would fit?

It’s not horrible to use, but the black locking collar at the top of the boot won’t stay put and it drives me crazy. That locking collar is something I got from eBay that’s 3d printed. Not a huge fan of having to use a jam nut on the bottom side of the knob itself either. Looking forward to getting something that fits and functions better.

 

That collar looks just like mine. I got mine from the seller/maker on Etsi. I also had problems with it at the beginning, but I solved them by doing two things: First, I put an O-ring inside the collar, at the top. This eliminated the side-to-side play, plus it doesn't slide down the shaft as easily. Secondly, I turned the collar clockwise until it really locked into place. This took a moderate amount of force. You may think that it's locked into place, but it isn't.

 

Got the TRD Pro knob installed today! Wish I would’ve gotten it sooner!
