Good Evening and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays All!

I wanted to check in with a new member post despite having replied in a couple threads here and there already. I say hello with my new-to-me 2023 TRD Off Road DCSB in Celestial Silver that I picked up about 3 weeks ago (12/6). The truck is a Certified Pre-Owned, came to me with 13k miles, and previously was leased from this dealership before being traded in right before I picked it up.

Originally, I bought a black TRD OR DCLB but due to some unforeseen circumstances, I needed to swap it out for a short bed and the dealership really took care of me with the exchange. It worked out great and the silver is the color that originally wanted. Black had been my favorite color on vehicles for years… until I started owning cars. But back in 2014 when I bought a Silver WRX, that all changed. Some modern silver paints, to my eye, have an optical depth (for lack of a better term) that I love and they look better when dirty than black ever can. I’m also a sucker for a fresh detail and take good care of my vehicles/paint in between washes, use a car cover, etc to keep the thing as clean and in as good of a condition as I can. I’ve gone 6 months between washes where my previous car looked almost as good at month 6 as it did fresh after a wash/wax. Also, Socal sun and heat makes black cars suboptimal for me since I sweat like hog.

I used to drive a 2010 Forester and since I lived in the mountains for a couple years (Crestline), the AWD was key to being able to get around comfortably and safely in the snow we got in that area. I grew up around trucks (Dad always had F-150s), was into off-roading with a friend when I first started driving, and have been into a combination of hiking/camping/climbing for about the past 15 years. Because of all this, AWD or 4WD has been practically non-negotiable since I bought my first Subaru in 2010.

Continuing that trend, I went with a 4WD TRD OR Tacoma since I’ve really liked the looks of the third gen Taco since they came out and have wanted a pickup, Tacoma specifically for about the past 5 years. The last time I was in the market for a car (Feb of 2020, right before shit hit the fan), I couldn’t afford a Tacoma and so I went with the Forester. Well, a month ago I got into an accident with said Forester after the Eagles/Rams game in LA which totaled it (no injuries, no other vehicles involved) and so I was in the market again.

Fast forward, and I brought this nutbeast home with me:

    IMG_4828.jpg

It came with a couple extras/goodies- namely a Rough Country tri-fold tonneau and tailgate lock. Drives great, was dry underneath from what I could see (I’d hope at only 13k miles), had a handicap tag on it when it was traded in (wishfully hoping that perhaps an elder gentleman owned it and didn’t beat the piss out of it for 13k miles), and has a few scratches here and there which takes the sting out of when I inevitable give it some battle scars over the next 10-20 years. I plan to keep this thing for as long as possible unless my needs change significantly or something else forces a move. The gas mileage is acceptable at about 20MPG between highway and mostly gentle city driving, and I’m loving the thing so far (other than the infotainment thing- what a pain in the ass to add apps or navigation and such).

I plan to add some accessories relatively quickly, including the following:

    - Window vents
    - Hood bug deflector
    - Pro Grille
    - Grille badge for +5HP and +2MPG
    - Running boards/steps
    - Cat shields
    - Tint
    - Pro style taillights
    - Blacking out badges (already removed the V6 badge from the tailgate)
    - Possibly grille lights; really like the look despite there being effectively no functional benefit from what I gather.

    Mid to long term additions:

    - Some kind of topper for camping
    - Roof rack
    - Bed storage for traction boards, shovel, modest recovery gear
    - Maybe a winch if I get into off-roading more heavily
    - Meatier tires
    - Possibly suspension, not that I’m going to need it for my use case. Which, speaking of….

    Use Case for this truck:

    - Mostly road driving with room for hauling bass guitars, amp, PA gear for shows
    - Making my way through moderate trails for camping and hiking access, nothing too gnarly
    - Camping in/on the bed
    - Since I live in Socal now, very occasional snow driving in the mountains. But I plan on moving back to the east coast/northeast/mid-Atlantic in the next couple years, so the 4WD will come in handy in the winter time and for beach driving down the shore.
    - Random hauling for things like:

    Christmas trees!

I think that about covers it for now. I’ve already learned a good deal from perusing the forum for the past couple weeks, and look forward to learning more from you all over the years.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday, and you all have a safe and healthy new year!

Thank you all for the kind words! Really enjoying it so far. Just pulled the trigger on a grille, hood deflector, and badge blackouts from yotaxpedition. Looking forward to the installs on those to tide me over in the near term.

Been a few weeks since posting here, but I’ve shared some accessory installations in other threads here and there. As I sit here on a commercial break while watching Eagles/Commanders, I figured I’d add a list and some pictures of the mods/accessories so far to keep things centralized.

Since purchase on 12/6, I’ve added the following:

    • CaliRaisedLED Cat Shields
    • CaliRaisedLED Bed Stiffeners
    • Weathertech Hood Bug Deflector
    • YotaXpedition Pro Style Grille
    • YotaXpedition Blackout Emblem Overlays
    • Tacoma Lifestyle Grille Badge
    • Gold Hook Black TRD Off Road Bedside Decals
    • OEM (Supposedly) Tube Steps/Running Board
    • CarID Pro Style Taillights
    • FitCamX Dash Camera
    • Fumoto Long Nipple Drain Valve
    • LED Eagles Puddle Light
    Yet to install/purchase:

    • Front window tint, darkening rear tint
    • 4Runner TRD SEMA Wheels (Matte Gray)/Tires
From a performance perspective, I’ve no real need to upgrade suspension or other parts yet. Going to keep it mechanically stock for warranty purposes, but once I’m out of warranty I’ll go for a tune.

Some pictures in no particular order:

This how I had the wiring from the dash camera arranged to allow the cover to fit back on.

Will be installing the Fumoto probably next weekend since I plan on doing my first oil change on the ol’ girl then. Loving the truck so far- very happy with it.
