I opened up the Emerson today, and it is clean!

 

I also don’t believe that I’ve ever seen a compressor this big in a window unit!

 

6,000 BTUs, but I don’t know the manufacture date yet…

 

So, if I’m reading the compressor tag correctly, this thing in fact from 1965!

 

I cleaned the grime out of the 1965 Emerson today…

 

First window A/C I’ve ever gotten that has a metal fan!

 

This unit literally looks like it’s was used for a little over a decade and then stashed in a basement for four decades. It was manufactured in 1965, and the townhouse where the seller lives was built in 1981; I believe the townhouse has central air, so this wasn’t needed and the original owner didn’t bother to take it with them when they moved. There is literally no dirt whatsoever in any of the “inside” areas, and the compressor engages!

 

The blower fan is metal and the condenser fan is plastic, but it seems to be a much sturdier plastic than what is used in today’s windows units…

 

Cleanest unit I’ve ever seen that isn’t brand new!

 

Reassembled and ready for spring!

 

You can’t really tell in this pic, aside from the top button being pushed in, but it was running!

 

Two 2013 GE window A/C units. The one on the left is like 10,000 BTUs and the one on the right is 12,000. Both supposedly work, but they were outside for a while and are kinda dirty; I also don’t go out of my way to save window units that are newer than 1995 because the quality just isn’t there; I got them for free and have no place to put them, so I’m disemboweling them and taking them to the scrapyard…

 

The 10,000 BTU unit was the most disgusting of the two…

 

The larger of the two wasn’t as nasty…

 

12,000 BTUs, so it has a lot of condenser!
