    Novice mechanic here.

I’ve got a 2012 Ford Focus that shakes pretty good, especially at idle on cold starts.

I’ll be replacing the motor mounts, but is there anything else I should be considering that might be contributing?

    Thanks

Is it shaking like a misfire or low idle speed?

If it's low idle speed I'd start with cleaning the throttle body.

I would guess low idle, but to be honest I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a misfire so maybe I wouldn’t know, ha. I’ll look up some examples of that, and remember to note the tach next time I start it.

    Thanks for the suggestion

Clean throttle body and any sensors in the intake, check/replace spark plugs and ignition coils as well.

Also check voltage while running, my current SAAB 9-5 Aero had a similar issue and it cleared up after I replaced the positive battery cable. The old one was very corroded and in poor shape, it was giving me all sorts of weird issues. It was idling very roughly and shaking a lot, also shifting pretty hard (automatic). Operating voltage was low, so the car was running like trash. Runs like a champ now though.

Thank you! I’ve got plugs and a bunch of other parts in the mail, so I’ll be ripping into it soon. I’ll check out everything you’ve suggested here.
