My deepest condolences on your loss.

Don't ever apologize for "bumming out the topic" with a post of this nature! Part of being an active participant on forums like this is the support we all offer one another in both good times and bad. There's not a person in this thread, or any thread for that matter, who hasn't felt a deep, painful loss. Your pain is our pain and we are here for you in whatever fashion each of us is able to offer. Post all you need, vent, scream, throw things, we won't care and will instead offer a shoulder, a hand, a hug, virtual or other in any way we can.

Take care of yourself and ask for help when you need it.

The last great adventure. At least that's the way I'd like to see it. My sympathies to those left behind...

Thanks all. Dad was an AF vet, stationed on Okinawa during the Korean war. Then in Colorado where he met my mom when she was in Colorado (Women's) college from CA. He smoked up until 40, quit. He had COPD/asthma later but kept going. Stubborn old guy. Had some good old fashioned sayings!

I saw his ECG last week, even to me it looked not good. His Troponin I was 118 and not dropping.

I worry more about my mom. I am sure she will be looking for him. Asking. Not remembering. That sucks. Dementia has to be the cruelest disease for the elderly (cancer is its younger pal). Heart disease just laying around on the couch just asking for a date of death.

Last night at about 8pm the wife says, "I don't think the furnace has come on in a while... and it's 68 degrees in the house. I go down and flip the power switch a couple of times and the furnace lights up like normal and runs a cycle. About 10 the wife is questioning why the furnace hasn't kicked on again. I flip the switch a couple of times and only the blower starts. Called the late night emergency tech (low thirties outside and expected to be colder) and he doesn't have his van because it's in the shop. We find the little space heater we've used in the camping trailer... and it is no longer working. So we hunker down for the night with an extra quilt. This morning the house has stabilized at 61 degrees. Tech shows up and he finds the circuit board is bad. He doesn't have one, and his local shop doesn't have one, so he needs to make a run to get one and won't be back till late afternoon. Still 61 in the house so I think we'll run in to town and pick up a couple of space heaters.
I've got one of those propane heaters that sounds like a jet engine and blows like one too, but that's only gonna get used if I can't find anything else.
Fortunately my wife is not one to be cold all the time. In fact she is usually too hot. Works for me!

That's what I don't like about the new high efficiency furnaces, too much electronic crap. I'm very hesitant to change my 15+ year old furnace. It just works. One day I'll be forced to but I'll keep it as simple as I can.

HA! That's funny. I actually agree with you about the new stuff... but this furnace is 15+. We bought the house 15 years ago with this furnace in it and the furnace wasn't new then. We had to replace the igniter a couple of years after buying, so this is the second time something has happened. In fact the tech took off the cover over the circuit board and said, "WOW!" and right away I wondered what that meant. He explained that he hadn't ever seen such a large circuit board. So maybe this furnace is the first gen of what we consider "new high efficiency" furnaces?

Sorry to hear. Sounds like he had a good run and passed peacefully. We should all hope to get the same.

Our daughter's 28th birthday today; we started the festivities with sourdough Einkorn/buttermilk waffles and the last of our stock of maple syrup from New Hampshire.

Sorry Paul. 93 is a good run. And, like it was said, we're all here, for any thing.

Furnace up and running. $280 for the part, plus labor. Nice kid that knew what he was doing.

Good to hear. Yeah I've replaced the igniter in mine a couple of times already. I think I have a spare, somewhere, lol. They always fail on a Sunday it seems.

Well it's a new chapter of my life, my new hearing aids arrived today. They are on the charger now. I'll fit them and set them up tomorrow. Right now I'm working in the wood shop.
These are over the counter and way less money. For a first set I think they will be fine, they have great reviews by audiologist.

@Pablo8 our condolences for your father's passing. I remember telling people how lucky I felt to still have my parents with me into my 60's. That was a gift in itself.
