I'll try to grab a pic tomorrow.

Seriously, the chain that comes with most welders is nothing more than chandelier chain. It's not remotely structural.

I trust my harbor Freight, craptastic, web straps more than the weak chain.

mine is jack chain, a remnant from some side job materials i had laying around. which, in looking into it, only has a WLL of 16 pounds, with no specified safety factor. but younger dumber 250-pound-me has hung off the stuff, so i know the actual load limit is pretty high for a non-structural chain...

Web strap tank holder. Both welders are set up this way.

Howdy... probably first time in this thread for me haha.

So, for all you that weld a hell of a lot more than me, what do you use / do to help mitigate lens fogging? What works best in your experiences? I have looked quick and it seems a basic anti fog juice is liked for this.... best choice? Anything specifically to avoid doing? I'd rather not hack a fan in, but could.

I have to weld outside, so it is a bit "cool" at the moment (Vermont) and it be foggin' and affecting me hard. I only do very light amount of welding now and then with a self darkening helmet. But I can't hold my breath quite long enough to finish while it's down lol.
    Thanks

Before I switched to Heatwaves eyepro, my disposable Milwaukee eyepro would fog so I would use a glass cleaner to wipe them down with

Would help for a few weeks until I went at it again

I say this cause I assume it'd work for your hood as well; my lenses in my hoods never fog up though :notsure:

Assuming Cali "Fresno"? (I forget) Probably fairly warm there regularly. TT603 above and myself are a bit cooler at the moment lol.
Like George Thorogood said "...I'm outdoors ya know..." Everything I wear over the face fogs for me if it's on long enough.

But yeah, sounds like a lens cleaner / coating is in order.

Yeah it doesn't get much colder than 30s when I've welded; small garage so door has to be open in order for me to weld or just in my driveway

Maybe try keeping your welding lid inside so it’s warm? I also try to breath through my nose, but this time of year that can be a challenge. lol.

It usually is, just when I go to use it when it's only 15 outside it doesn't take long for it to get cooled down. And I'm a sllooowww welder.... Maybe I could rig up the old hairdryer I keep in the shed for mid-winter carb warmups. Run it up to my lid like Murdoch from the A-team (seems like something he would do) "The struggle is real"

'Round these parts that's shorts and t-shirt weather.... but I refuse to wear crocs haha

After a recharge of a day yesterday at Carrizo Plains with practically no one there (absolutely needed some good times in the Tacoma) it’s now time for trabajando! A bench for some lovely ladies who have been thee kind of generous friends anyone would want.

30%/70% mix of J&J Baby Shampoo and water spray a couple drops on a clean lens and rub it around let dry and buff with a microfiber towel

Used alot of this homemade antifog during covid lockdown to keep my safety glasses from fogging up from the mask

Aluminum is fun to TIG. One has to move fast. But it’s a rush homes’.

Now onto the aluminum nuts…better be on your best game for these, very little room for error. :hattip:

    Same goes for aluminum MIG.

Just did 32 foot of weld. It's work!

Not as pretty as TIG, but you can really haul ass running a spool gun.
