i remember reading somewhere about AEM and other aftermarket AFR gauges running some sort of heater cycle and it causing the wideband sensors to wear out prematurely.

I just installed Denso sensors in January and one of them has already taken a dump and is reading inaccurately now. confirmed by swapping them bank to bank and the problem following to the other side.

How long is everyone else’s wideband o2 sensors for your gauges lasting? I thought going with Denso would help but now I’m not so sure.

 

Innovate gauges just bake the sensors to death too. I run genuine bosch widebands though, over two years on mine so far.

 

If I could get 2-3 yrs out of mine I’d be happy. My gauges originally came with Bosch so I will probably go back to those, especially if the other one dies soon. The original sensors definitely lasted longer than 12 months. Thanks for sharing your experiences

 

While I'm waiting, anyone have torque specs handy for the head bolts for the 1gr?

 

Also if you're not using another project vehicle as a work bench, you're doing it wrong (not exactly my project, and it has been going on since 1997 but still lol)

Got the head back on and torqued, then I found this guy...

 

Is that a tensioner?

 

Well it's stationary; it goes on the two pins you can see behind it and to the right. I suppose it's more of a guide as the part that actually applies tension is opposite of that in the cover... But I dunno what it's proper name is

 

Have to pull the timing cover to get to where that guy goes.

 

That's what you think... I just pulled the head again. Now the game we are playing is, where did this tooth come from? I'm afraid I'm about to burn this thing to the ground...
