Boy, with the crap you find in those units your salvage, I sure hope you use a respirator or dust mask during the work...or any time around them.

Somebody actually stole the partially stripped 12,000 BTU GE out of the bed of my truck last night, in one of the most expensive zip codes in Bucks County! I believe it happened in the 7-Eleven parking lot while I was getting a Slurpee, because there’s no way in hell it fell out of the truck. My mechanic reviewed his security footage from when I picked up the engine block, and it shows two air-conditioners in the back; I went to 7-Eleven after picking up the engine, and the truck was only unattended in my girlfriend’s driveway and my own driveway between going to my mechanic’s and my discovery of the theft; I got the A/C unit for free, but it was probably worth $60+, so I filed a police report. I know that I’m never gonna get the A/C back, but it would be nice to know for sure what happened to it and make the local cops aware of thefts in the area.

I posted about the theft on the Doylestown Facebook group, and someone offered up another junk A/C unit as a replacement. It’s not a 12,000 BTU, but it’s the thought that counts!

 

I’ve only worn a mask when I’m dismantling indoors. Dismantling air-conditioners doesn’t stir up much crap. Gloves are more important.

Also, @Lt. Dangle, someone stole a 12,000 BTU window A/C out of my truck last night!

Yeah, but they’re corporate controlled from a central location…

 

That sucks man, sorry to hear that. You need to wrangle up a cap, or really just find a place to store that stuff out of sight.

 

I’ve kept intact window units back there for days. This one was partially dismantled and the copper/condenser was visible. I have no problem keeping central A/C units back there because nobody carry them without help.

 

Just be glad this happened while you were out and about. If it was where you parked your truck overnight, I'd be bigly concerned.

Hopefully no more issue and the guy who stole yours drops it on his little toe.

 

If he scrapped it for drug money, I hope he gets a batch with fentanyl in it and overdoses…

I will NEVER make the mistake of leaving these in the bed of my truck again!

 

Air-conditioners at an Italian restaurant we went to on December 30th, including two 1980s York Stellars; I think they are heat pumps, but I’m not sure…

Part of the HVAC system on the Battleship New Jersey; I know for a fact that she has a chiller installed topside (like on the same level as the helm; an employee actually took me to a restricted area during an early 2012 trip to the ship when I expressed interest in the HVAC system, and I have a video of it on YouTube somewhere). I have no idea if these units are part of the chiller, which was installed after she was converted to a museum ship, or if they are part of the heating system installed during the 1980s refit...
