They would have to be on the truck before I think about rock light placement. They will be a job for another day. I'll probably make up brackets.

I've seen the pictures. Great work.

It'll be nice being able to tackle harder stuff with being fully armored, although I will still be a little reserved. Don't want to break my daily.

Trust me, my truck is my daily as well.....but I know you you can do the trail without any issue. You will actually do better than my rig on it since you actually have more ground clearance, are lighter, and a shorter wheelbase. The skids and sliders will be there to just protect the important bits. With spotting you have the trail no problem at all.

Mocking up the skid plates. No welding required. All you have to do is drill two holes.

Well I am not happy with the way the first one came out. The paint almost feels soft. I am going to let it sit for a couple of days and see how it is. In the meantime I got etching primer for the second one. It only has a first coat right now. Still need to flip it and finish the other side. Will see how this one turns out.PXL_20241228_161900800.MP.jpg

Nice and flat. Now I need a good drill and some spacers/bolts/nuts.

I never had good luck with self etching primer. I like the Rustolem automotive primer much better. You can find it at Walmart in the automotive section.

I used (2) different ones, it just seems the primer is soft. Can be scraped off easily. Will let them sit for a couple of days and see how they turn out. Still need to get bed liner to give it some grip, so I have time.

This went on the first slider.

This went on the second one

That's not good. Make sure you do light coats and it's not too cold where you spray.

    or ...
maybe drill the two holes for the transfer skid and weld the two skids together? :sawzall::welder: Would that be strong enough?

Either way I'll have to drill two holes for the transfer skid and get two spacers about 3/8" thick, I'm thinking a thick washer.
The transmission crossmember is about 1 3/8" too far to the rear.

Yeah, I am most likely going to resand them and start over. I may wait till the spring though as painting them in my basement isn't great. "Fumes and space"

Just a couple months away. It'll be here before you know it. Just make sure you have all the supplies on hand.

I've used self etching primer a few times with good results. It's been a couple of years, but as I recall I used two very light coats and then two light coats of color. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it wasn't automotive. I did way more painting at the house then I ever wanted to while getting ready to put it on the market.

That was a years long process and I did a lot during 2020 when there wasn't much else to do for much of the year. :(

For y'all that are trying to paint your sliders.

There is a dude local to @crashngiggles and I.

He did my winch bumper for me. Also did the underside of my Super Duty, frame, underside of cab, etc.

All starts with a good sandblasting. Then goes from there.
Absolutely worth it in my opinion.

    https://www.northsandblasting.com/

Not sure if it is an option for y'all, but, especially this time of year trying to get paint to stick, etc.

Looking for an opinion on whether or not I should / could keep the old nylon washer for the idler pulley on my dryer,
    IMG_1667.jpg

New OEM pulley came with the thin metal washer . Nylon washer looks great ( to me). Use complete kit that came with package or old nylon one?. I’m thinking old will be ok

The metal one was cheaper to make then and now. The metal one might be "good enough" but the nylon one definitely is.
