At my first oil change and service dealer staff said their initial look such as parts and not just colors or model year change looked like pretty much same across the two years. They also said nothing is standing out as the new generation being a problematic vehicle. They should know that better than some Internet speculators.

I hope it works well for you. Mine's been pretty great so far.

My service advisor said otherwise and told me to wait, he’s personally taken care of 4 transmission replacements all under 8k. Not saying that’s the norm just saying what hear is not what many others maybe hearing.

Maybe that service advisor didn't have a stats class or basic understanding of statistics? Even though I was at the largest dealer by far in the region, it is one of 20 they own. The actual management person in that discussion circle was meaning their large store and the many others. He said the Tacoma was not really standing out against the other new models and redesigns.

We know the transmission TSB is a small percentage of total Tacomas made now. The NTSB official site and other data-bases lists are not showing a notable problem. Consumer Reports whether or not one liked them does surveys with methodology. Their new 10 least reliable or most problematic list had the GM mid-sized pickups and F150 - no Tacoma.

Even with overall reduced mid-size pickup sales - the whole segment - Tacoma is a big seller. It is just not there with the make/model combos with a lot of problems.

After speaking with a Toyota spokesperson, Car and Driver reported in September that the number of affected Tacomas is less than "thousands", which to me indicates it's more than one thousand. The total number of complaints on the NHTSA website is 56, so it's obvious to me that not everyone has filed a complaint. The only way we'll know is if Toyota releases that information, and I'm not holding my breath. If the NTSB is tracking this issue, please post a link.

Toyota is not into telling the truth. They aren’t going to release proprietary information unless forced by a government.

However, if there were pervasive problems as the trolls want you to believe, the shit storm would be category 5.

Another data point is coming. When the new Tacoma SUV (4Runner) is launched, all eyes will be on quality. One little issue will draw the trolls out of their caves.

So far my 2024 Tacoma is relatively problem free but I never know on a vehicle, until I get 12-18,000 miles. I’m a long way from that right now.

How are the engines going to work from a logistics standpoint for 4Runner? If I remember aren't they made in the USA and sent to Mexico? Will Japan have a plant that makes them (possibly already do for the Lexus variants I don't know so maybe someone here has more knowledge on the fact).

Yes, some obvious problems at noticeable scale with competitors show.
Prior news I recall said the engine and transmission made in different US plants are shipped worldwide but I've also read hybrid vision of some T24A are made in India.

The T family is old but T24 is in the 2017+ Dynamic Force family. This link sort of illustrates or tells which products and where get the engine.

That's why I included, I'm not holding my breath. I'm not going to take the word of a dealership and combine that with numbers listed on the NHTSA website, which clearly don't reflect the number of affected vehicles reported by Car and Driver. If the Car and Driver reporting is correct, Toyota has (or had) a problem with the Tundra and Lexus LX engines, so it's not a stretch to consider the possibility that there could be a problem with the 4th Gen Tacoma. Only time will tell. I have owned several Tacomas over the years and don't see that changing in the future.

Why would he need a stats class to say hey I've seen 4 of these already with replaced transmissions, in his opinion wait it out, anyone not needing a truck or having to have the latest and greatest would take pause with a first year especially when seeing first hand some issues. I am on here, the other forum and 3 of the facebook groups, there are some issues as expected with first year all new platform, and definitely some QC issues, is it problematic overall not based on the sheer number sold, will it be reliable or solid long term? Time will tell. I hope so cause I will always have one in the garage.

Exactly my stand point. I dont trust Toyota, just look at the Tundra debacle and how they claimed it was only some 22-23's, now 24s and now even seeing a few 25's fail in the groups. From seeing guys with leaking cases, shocks (TH shock on some guy leaking in one group), rattling or breaking panels, paint issues and then throw in a possible transmission issue, I will let them get their sh*t together before I jump ship and I am a fanboy as anyone here knows.

Of course there are some as you say but quite often context is really important. I will illustrate it this way with the 4 you said you have seen.

4 divided by 170,098 = 0.0000235 but even the higher number when I bought my pickup meant I had more risk of a crash driving it per 1000 miles than I did of a transmission failure. I understand and respect our freedom to not use or know math, and to be overly paranoid but that is not how I live. There are other risks I need to be more concerned about.

Your more likely to have the timing cover start dripping oil in your driveway on a 3rd gen and cost a fortune to fix then have a transmission go bad on your 4th gen…just one example

We have not had a self reported transmission failure with the listed codes on this sub forum since the Transmission TSB thread was made a sticky on September 13. I'm surprised. Given this forum is the default result of a google search, I'd expect it to be a magnet for frustrated and disappointed truck owners seeking an audience.

This doesn’t conform with the third gen owner narrative

Once again you’re missing the point and making ignorant comments assuming just because someone doesn’t want to buy something based on a potential issue or percieved risk they don’t understand math or statistics.

Well ya 1.2 million trucks as the sample size vs 150,000 and only a year into mileage and being on the road, come on now. And it’s not that common, 9 of them and not one had one.

Far more active owners in the Facebook groups actually than here. I see way more issues reported there than here. Just some in the last day as examples.
