Everybody is different, I change my oil when the engine is hot, not warm or cold. It’s not because it drains faster but because it drains cleaner. Contaminants and sludge are still in solution and hasn’t settled in the oil pan yet and thus drains cleaner. Now that my warranty is up, I’ll switch from Toyota OEM oil to Mobil 1 or Castrol. Yeah I know Toyota oil is a probably Mobil 1 but the dealer is a 65 mile round trip and I can get Mobil 1 or Castrol locally near my home. But I do think Toyota oil filters are as good as any and those are sold at Wal Mart too.

I don't think we are compelled to use genuine Toyota oil to maintain warranty. The manual specifies Toyota oil or equivalent (meaning that the oil satisfies the ILSACGF-6A requirements.) Has anyone had push back from Toyota for this?

You can get 6 qts of mobile 1 full synthetic at Costco for $33 when it’s on sale.

Toyota oil is whatever oil the dealership is having delivered, at least for serviced vehicles. We had pennzoil at our dealership back in the day and the master techs hated it because they swore it sludged up in Toyota engines. Our most seasoned master tech recommended mobile 1 or valvoline.

It’s not so bad after a few successful changes, it is confusing though the first time. Probably would’ve been fine if you just drain it cold, weigh it, and then add the exact same amount per weight, but I’m not gonna experiment with not doing it the recommended way.

One thing you have to recognize about Toyota and their sites/parts departments: If it didn't originally come on the vehicle the system flags it as not fitting. Prime example would be something like the TRD Pro (heritage) grille for any trim that isn't a Pro. Their system will say it doesn't fit purely because it wasn't standard equipment on say an SR5 or TRD Sport.

Yes I agree they don’t mandate using OEM oil but I would rather not take the chance while under warranty since I trust the dealer about as far as I can spit in case I have an issue and they pull some crap on me cause I didn’t use their oil.

Not sure what your point is here - the stuff in oil, brakekleen, DOT4, etc... absorbs into your skin and causes all sorts of neurological issues, ignoring the 100% proven cancer-causing effects. Many of those hundreds of thousands of mechanics now likely have degenerative nerve conditions they wouldn't have otherwise had they worn gloves.

For a long time, hat-makers worked with liquid mercury bare-handed and were known to be "eccentric", to the point of people saying "mad as a hatter". Nobody put two and two together for centuries - they just assumed hat-makers were weirdos.

This stuff is not rumor, it's not theoretical, it's not a single study somewhere by eggheads that "could be wrong" - this is extremely well understood, well studied stuff, and just because your granpappy worked without gloves and drank 60 beers a week and smoked 3 packs a day and was fat as shit and lived till 90 doesn't mean you shouldn't wear gloves changing oil to avoid getting early onset Parkinsons or cancer and becoming a liability to your family.

For an oil change once or twice a year,
Yah it wouldn't hurt to use gloves but
OMG and OCD the sky is not falling !

IDK I use gloves just so I don't get dirt and grime in my finger nails and I stay cleaner. the oil smell doesn't come off your hands for a few washings over some hours. Of course I always manage to get it up my arms when taking off oil filter. gloves do not cover that. Not worried about getting cancer for 2 oil changes on 2 vehicles each per year.

I just use Super tech oil. it meets the spec and my last oil change I had a Blackstone analysis. They said everything was looking good. so nothing to worry about or reason to buy expensive oil.

I forget to use gloves but the shop I visit has “Fast Orange.”

Even using fast orange, the residue is still there so I use fast orange hand wipes to get the last of the oil so I don’t touch the door handle & steering wheel/gear selector with my smelly hands.

I don’t make as much of a mess with Fumoto and the MotiveX Kit…so, there’s that.

I use organic, non-gluten, pro-biotic, taco motor oil. It costs $50/qt.
    - It is cr@p lubricant, but it is actually good for your skin.

Zep Cherry Bomb Industrial Hand Cleaner is way better than “Fast Orange.” It leaves no crap on hands. Cherry Bomb also have hand wipes, in case no water.

So you replace chemicals with other chemicals.
I use pure plain soap and warm water.
