...^^^... Your wisdom Grasshopper proves itself to be infinite  ... I am not a turbo guy either (except in a high performance vehicle that I expect to die at 50K miles or sooner).

I don't need Scotty Kilmer to tell me that a 50,000 rpm turbo is not a great and lasting mechanical item on a "gas burner Tacoma or 4Runner".

These are just my thoughts and not mean to offend the "battery & turbo boys" .

As a helo pilot, you should know that high RPM nonreciprocating parts are incredibly reliable.

I’ve had one manual window fail and one power window.

The manual was my then fiance now wife’s Volvo. It was the most difficult to repair because I basically had to make a part. Good thing I owned a machine shop.

Window kept falling down in winter she was driving around with oven mitts.

I moved her to Houston and fixed the window because oven mitts help with mosquitoes.

V shaped engines, especially with DOHC are way more complicated with higher parts counts than inline engines with the same number of cylinders.

Dropping 2 cylinders reduces complexity further.

Automobiles are more complicated and better than ever.

Simplistic reasoning of complexity is not the judge of durability. Design and manufacturing prowess is.

Carbs sucked. They dumped raw fuel on cold engines and you couldn’t move until they warmed up or they would run like hell.

We have way more complicated port or direct injection now that works way better. Toyota uses both.

I remember when airbags came out. People walked away from accidents that would have disfigured or killed them a few years before.

The results would have been even better if the government fiddlers didn’t modify Ford’s idea of supplemental restraint to seat belts and require manufacturers to provide overpowered bags to protect people not wearing seat belts.

Simplistic government reasoning killed people who weren’t built large enough to take the extra force to save people who didn’t care enough to wear a built.

I mean, to me, the real frustration stems from Toyota’s decisions on how to leverage their extensive background and experience with hybrid drivetrains on its premium SUV and Truck categories in North America.

Granted, the potential fuel economy gains with a larger, less aerodynamic and heavier vehicle are lower than the Prius. I don’t expect 40 mpg in a truck.

But there is literally no EV option and nothing close to 30 mpg. Which is an achievable number outside of towing or hauling for a compact pickup w hybrid drivetrain.

I’m personally agnostic to turbos, and while I love my ‘02 Tundra, the v8 slurps gas like my kids do maple syrup so I use it for specific tasks rather than an all around daily. It’s nice to have old school muscle when you want old school muscle. Most days I just need something to haul people and light gear.

I would really like to see more fuel economy in a Toyota pickup truck or SUV. Compact or midsize. Everything on the market today is missing the mark I’m personally interested in.

I do realize I’m not a typical buyer though.

You could have 30mpg trucks in the Tacoma’s size.

However, it won’t look tough like an American buyer wants. It won’t have big tires. It won’t have good ground clearance (look at the derision that comes with the air dam here). It won’t have trucklike capabilities. It won’t have a trucklike drivetrain personality (go drive a Prius and tell me how fun it is).

we don’t actually want 30mpg trucks.

Aircraft of all types are only reliable because of turbines. A well-engineered turbine or turbo isn’t a real reliability concern. If I need to toss a $1500 part at my truck in 15 years, I’ll deal with it

OK ... I used to deal with them on the trade offset program to Finland when they were selling (really leasing) aircraft to Finland.

    Nice group of people there.

PS Really lease to purchase plans

The ridgeline absolutely kicks ass. But the slow sales show that we (myself included) buy trucks aspirationally, not practically.

I’d be better served by a maverick or ridgeline than my Tacoma. But I bought a tacoma…with a sway bar disconnect I’ll never need

....^^^... Hey, be nice ... lol
I had a Ridgeline when they first came out ... nice, well designed vehicle ... but too car/van like ride for me.

The new 2025 Ridgeline, I seriously considered because of their great V6, in bed storage and dual exhausts (yes, I like dual exhausts on a vehicle, even with a crossover).

Just went to a 15 year old style, 2024, 4Runner and I love it. Got it mainly to take the family on long road trips. Wife has RAV4 and Corolla for the college boy. (all vehicles without turbos and batteries)
