We've had our share of pup issues already this year also! Ours ate something on a off leash walk and was sick for a week, stepped on a stick under water that went in and broke off up in the foot. I'm buying a dog first aid kit and emergency pup carrying pack thing. Glad you all made it out ok!

One thing I’ve always done in addition to caring pet first aid is locate the closest vet and/or emergency vet to where ever I’m hunting. I write down the address and program it into my gps. If I have a serious or emergency situation with doggo I don’t want to be panically searching for a vet in an area I am unfamiliar with. I want to get doggo in the truck and to treatment asap.
A friend and his dog was hunting with me a few years ago and his lab got a serious rattlesnake bite. We got him to a vet and a shot of anti venom in about 20 or 25 minutes. The anti venom likely saved the dogs life as he was fading fast. Had I not located a vet ahead of time the outcome could have been far different.
One other thing , have the vets phone number handy so you can call and let them know you are coming in with an emergency.

I just signed my GSP up for a preseason chucker dog training/hunt. We will see how it goes on Saturday haha.

Oh yeah! At the end of my wife and daughter's Hunter safety class, I might have accidentally volunteered to become a instructor! Haha! My daughter also offered to help so that young kids feel more comfortable in the class.

Did a preseason chucker/dog training hunt today with the 10-month-old GSP.... Did not go as well as I thought it might haha.... You know it's bad when the owner of the club/dog trainer shakes his head at you and says " you have your hands full with that one" haha

I was very fortunate with my GSP's. Ruffed Grouse were abundant during their first seasons (less than a year old). Go in with minimal expectations. A day, week or season on wild birds beats countless days on planted birds imo. They'll become hunting machines. Don't get me wrong, planted birds are great for working through the mechanics & training.

Did another pre-season training last weekend and my GSP finally realized what was happening and started pointing and working correctly! Been working with him a lot and it is finally paying off. We've got some trips scheduled coming up so :fingerscrossed:

This picture showed up in my memories on Google Photos. It's a few years old. Can you see the Woodcock?

I felt bad this year. First time in 13 years Emmie didn't make the annual NMW bird hunting trip. I have to pick her up to get in and out of the truck...

Nice harvest especially for a 10 month old. Good looking GWP.

Thank you. I hunt near a release site that has a really steep draw that no one hunts about half mile away. Towards the end of the year it collects a fair amount of birds, but we have never had this good of luck.

My daughter had me frost this vase for my wife/her mom. (We take a tail feather from every bird and put them in a vase.). We outgrew our old vase so it is time to move up to this one after Xmas. It is a fun family harvest reminder.

That is beautiful! Great work. I’ve also been saving tail feathers for years. Here’s a pic of one bunch. They’re in a Terry Redlin mug. That represents lots of memories.
