Well, after 6 months I have finally got the truck registered in California and I am waiting for the title in the mail.

The engine and transmission have a clean bill of health. The oil in the coolant overflow was completely fixed with a coolant flush and a new radiator (a complete miracle tbh). To get the title I bent the truth a bit at the DMV. I didn't mention anything about the title skipping, but I did tell them about the odometer. Apparently 2003 is the last year that did not require odometer accurary/verification (no idea how that works, it was another miracle).

The LAPD has tracked the group responsible all across the state but they're still collecting evidence... AKA watching them do this to more people. If anyone commutes near HWY 78, this group has been putting women and children at the intersections around El Camino Real and HWY 78 to beg for money; they stick out like a sore thumb since they're well dressed pushing high end strollers and not at all the typical homeless-drug addicted-beggar demographic around here. I don't know when LAPD will begin making arrests, but I presume it to be at least another 6 months before anyone is taken into custody. I said it earlier, but this is literally the romanian mafia and I'm pretty sure they're working with mexican cartels to do the odometer swaps and also to traffic romanian citizens indebted to the mafia across the border.

I had a little too much fun figuring out all of the details of how this group works haha.

Unfortunately I'm going to list the truck for sale as soon as I get the title in the mail. I've put about 4,000 miles on it since the repairs have been done, and although it is a good truck my pockets are empty and I want a 4x4 SUV/crossover instead lol. Hope this was a fun update, and thanks for the help and support everyone!

I saw this video that was showing this car scam in action. The scammer will try to buy a car and during their inspection will distract the owner and add oil to the overflow to try and get money off the deal. But the oil is too oily to be from a blown head gasket and not milkshake.

I started following this instagram account that shows the gypsy scammers out in the inland empire.

Oh no way, I wonder if they did that to the first owner. Wouldn't be surprised.

Can you share the handle to the IG account? This group is right there in Santa Ana/Garden Grove/Anaheim/Inland Empire (the offerup account I shared before is based in inland empire).

    helpfulrebelstv is the account

it makes sense that if your engine is good, plus the oil is super dark in the overflow. if oil made it that far it I can't imagine it would look like that.

This kinds of thing happens. This guy is a motorcycle youtuber, but this short went insane when he posted it. Way bigger than any of his bike stuff.

Ha, that's the account that showed me they're sending the women and children to beg for money!

They definitely must've done the oil trick. Can't wait to visit these scumbags when they're behind bars. It was a young girl who sold it to them; it was her dad's truck and he bought it off the lot 20+ years ago. They clearly took advantage of her.

10k for a 1st gen double cab sounds about right for the price regardless of mileage.
