    Good post.

As a law dog, I used to chase a guy who once told me the first thing he ever did with a new rig was to take the thermostat out and throw it away. The last time I saw him, he was pulled off along the Interstate with his hood up and staring at his engine.

I recall seeing an article –pre-Internet– showing how to run your used motor oil through a roll of toilet paper to make it "like new."

My father was conned into buying one of those toilet paper filter canisters (he was told it was the ultimate device & would save him lots of $'s). What a huge mess it was to change out. It soon went into the trash.
Edit: I also remember my mother's reaction when he brought it home, really you traded for "magic beans"?.

That was actually a somewhat common thing back in those days. Replace the oil filter and top off what was lost. Most engines back then were done before 100K miles.

Would be interesting to see what today's modern oils would have been like back in the day, if those engines could have doubled in mileage before shitting the bed.

I think it’s highly likely they would have lasted longer. Modern oils are much better at keeping the rings from getting stuck. Once the rings carbon up and get stuck, the clock is ticking.

Ah yes, the rings. Remember MacMillan Ring-Free motor oil? The "best in the world" I was once told.

i dont want to use Toyota maintenance schedule, i rely on myself. I did oil change at 1k and at 5k i will do oil change again and other stuff. Im not re-inventing the wheel here and just simple want to document what maintenance needed for hybrid. The owners manual doesnt have all the information.

But you say that you are getting info from YouTube. The mileage numbers in your chart are insanely low. It seems like you are just making shit up...

i also said that its a rough draft. Im not going blindly listen to people on youtube, forums etc... im getting info comparing it and doing my own research. As right now i plan to change my oil, transmission fluid, front/rear diff, grease the driveshaft, clean cabin air filter, hybrid battery air filter, engine intake and do tire rotation at 5k (im at 1435miles). I dont care if its too soon or not, but in toyota manual says for engine oil 10k with caveats like if you tow or offroad, which i offroad. I plan to do these things every 5k and what i wanted to find out is what other maintance tacoma hybrid needs besides coolants/break fuild/spark plugs and serpertine belt. My dealership is ... lets say i dont trust them at all since they marked up Trailhunter to $79k MSRP and i got it for $65k. No one will take care of my car like i will, i plan to keep it too.

    **EDIT**
I dont make shit up, like i stated before its a rough chart with shitty info and i will double check and triple check it. That is why i asked people here. If you dont have anything to do then just dont post and waste anyone's time

OK, ok, wording a bit harsh, no offense intended...

So here are the intervals from my manual. I do not have a hybrid, so yours may be different:

    Oil/filter @ every 10K miles
    Air Filter/Cabin filter @ every 30K miles
Spart plugs @ every 40K miles
Engine and intercooler coolant @ 100K miles

Otherwise, lots of topping up fluids, rotating tires, inspecting just about everything...

No mention of replacing trans, diff or transfer case fluid - but those are typically good for a long time. Also, no mention of greasing u-joints/driveshafts. Do you know if there are zerk fittings for those? I have not even checked yet.

I'm with you on doing my own maintenance and dropping the intervals way down. I typically change oil @ every 5K and air filters every 10K. I have a few cars in the fleet and that interval just makes it super easy to keep track of. :)

    Thanks man, i appreciate it!

The reason i want to change everything at 5k is when i offroad (climbing over rocks or just very steep hills) i get a warning message saying my transmission fluid is too hot. Maybe im working truck too much or maybe there is not enough fluid. There was a guy on the trail told me just go with 4L and my transmission shouldnt overheat. I havent researched for that yet, im thinking on going to parts or service for toyota and just annoy the shit out of them with all my stupid questions. Thats what i did for the TSB, my TH is effected for that transmission bs.

I like that 5k oil and 10k filters, so ima steal that :)

But it's a lot easier than the previous gen. I'm guessing a thirty-minute or less job.

And that's why I bought a stool. In fact, I keep one inside my bed. It's parked below my axe.

Just did my first oil/filter change at 5k. Seemed very strait forward. Only issue was the oil plug gasket was stuck on the pan. I tried to knocked it off but it seemed to be glued to the pan. Didn't feel much like messing with it, so I just added a new washer on top of the old, I'll deal with it the next time. I also noticed the filter was on super tight, luckily in my box of oil filter cap wrenches I had a genuine toyota 64mm which worked out great. Toyota part number 09228-06500-02

My washer was the same way. Thought maybe it was actually part of the oil pan, so put the other washer on. Not leaking so far. I guess the next change I'll use a flat scraper type thing and knock it off.[IMG]

As others have said, the oil filter is on very tight from the factory. Not sure why it needs to be that tight. I was a little concerned getting mine off.
