Hey everyone, it’s my first time posting on here! I’ll start the thread by saying I feel super overwhelmed with all these build options, and I was wondering if I could have some recommendations based on what I am leaning towards. I’m pretty set on a 2.5 inch lift with no spacers or blocks. I’m thinking an OME lift kit? As for wheels, I’m looking at either method or black rhino(no idea what size to consider). And as for tires, I have absolutely no clue where to start. I just don’t want any rubbing. What are some recommendations you guys have for me? Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Although spending money is fun I recommend just driving the truck as is for a while, with the possible exception of tires these trucks are very capable right off the showroom floor.

As you live with and learn about your truck you will start seeing what mods will help you do what you want to do.

Are you looking at going offroad often? Or, are you mainly DD the truck? That's gonna be a good starting point for what kind of build direction you wanna go

0 offset wheel with a 265/70r17 or 265/75r16 replace mudflaps with rokblokz 99% of the time 0 rubbing and all the looks with none of the cons of lifting. Keep it simple till your suspension is dead research a ton till then.
When shopping around for wheels always check the weight there's a ton of popular wheels and tires on here that are complete boat anchors and will hinder your ride quality rather than improve.

I also say if this truck is a daily keep the lift 1" or less don't level don't go over a skinny 33" tire and you will appreciate it far more.

I have a fairly thorough build and I love the truck but I only drive it on weekends. If it were a daily i would revise my set up.

Not judging but why an OME lift? Have you looked into doing a bilstein lift? I personally went used and got a pair of rear king shocks for $500 and bilstein 6112 practically new for $600. You’d be surprised how good of a deal you can get going used.

I appreciate the thorough response! Just to add some context, this is currently a daily driver but due to work circumstances, sometime next year I will be keeping my work van at my house so the taco will end up as a weekend vehicle. When that happens, I’ll most likely look into lift/wheels/tires. I just want to do my research now.

In all honesty, I’m pretty set on a lift. Since this truck would not be used for really crazy off roading yet, do you think I could just get away with Bilstein 5100s at 2 inches in the front and a 1.5 AAL in the rear? And with that, I’m thinking 275/70/R17 tires with 17x8.5 wheels with 0 offset?

Let me know what you think! Again, I’m just brainstorming for the future.

Honestly, rethinking the ome lift kit. Thinking about 5100 at 2 inch in front and 1.5 AAL rear.

Love my 2" Bilstein 5100 lift. I did the 1" block in the rear with no regrets, since I dont regularly add weight in the box.

The only way you "may" get rubbing is if you go aftermarket rims with different offset, not from the lift.

    Good luck

I’ve lifted most of my trucks and 4Runners as soon as I could, even my daily’s since they are more fun to drive lifted. IMO, the stock suspension is a weak link for this truck, but I’m not the most suspension informed, but I’ve had 6 lifted Toyotas.

I’ve OME and bilstein lifts as of late and I like the bilstein the most for how it handles things both on and off road….

The 5100s aren’t that impressive honestly. I prefer OME

I agree, OME over the 5100s in my opinion.

I've been putting my Dobinson MRRs through the test the last couple of months. I paired them with dirt king upper and lowers. I've been super happy with them! I've been through Bilstein, kings, and Elka, on past builds, but these are my favorite so far.

Why do you recommend against leveling?

It's a truck, they are designed to be level under load. If you level a truck then load it you e d up with a front positive rake which i found to really hurt the driving characteristics. Made the steering feel really light and floaty.

My old set up with the ome medium leafs sat pretty much level and once I loaded it for a weekend or a project or towed the boat it was awful. I now have dobinsons 112 leafs and with the added rake I can fully load the truck and it will sit level. And that made everything far more comfortable.

    20220506_211708.jpg
Med leafs only extra weight was the cap and it drove horribly

My situation obviously over exaggerates this but it takes nothing to squat stock leafs even with an add a leaf
