Twenty points says bike attends the university of Austin. Take a little time and use that book to smash the meal you are going to eat and stop trying to justify cruelty. There is not one hunter that likes the thought of killing. Not one person in a slaughterhouse that enjoys that aspect either. It is a dirty business - yet something that must be done. So lay off the tear jerking and get back to eating ground up McNuggets.

I'm not trying to start an argument but doesn't most animals eat other animals? So why is it bad that we eat animals? Plus if we was to completely stop killing all of them they would over populate, fast.

I understand exactly what you're saying, but I'm not only talking about the average "farm" animals. I personally eat just as much deer and turkey as I do beef, pork and chicken. The only good way to control the population of wild animals is to kill them off. Once again, in no way am I arguing with your points, I'm just curious of your opinions on the matter.

I don't really feel like getting into the debate, but i feel you aren't being entirely forthcoming. you keep mentioning how bad meat is for you. Ok, you have a point that too much meat too often, or all the time is not good for you. However, you fail to mention how unhealthy vegan and vegetarian diets CAN be. If done right that lifestyle can be extremely healthy, but if not done right, people go without basic nutrients and become sick. I've known plenty of vegetarians and a few vegans and while i have no issue with the lifestyle, i know it can be hard to do. we all have our own beliefs and they rarely change, so i'm not about to waste my time trying to convince anyone of anything, i just wanted to point out that veganism isn't always as healthy as people make it out to be.

It is a personal pet peeve of mine but can we stop using the terms "humane" and "inhumane" when referring to non humans. Simply insert "compassionately" or something.

This is an interesting debate and like all controversial discussions there are studies and statistics supporting both sides. I'll sit here and

I find it funny how some people can't even discuss topics they may or may not agree with , without becoming defensive or butthurt .

There is a massive over population of deer in my area, resulting in a increase in car accidents and injuries.

Other individuals would argue the exact oposite.

The increasing number of hunting permits being authorized would argue that fact. I have no doubt there are less hunters in some areas than others, but to say the overall trend is the reduction of hunting due to ethical concerns is false.

I won't argue with you there. Assuming you are healthy about it and continue to get all the nutrients and protein and everything you need, then i'll fully admit that vegen/veggie lifestyles are healthier. I can't imagine not eating meat, but if i had to choose between never eating meat again, or never having another veggie, i'd have to give up the meat. I eat a TON of dark greens, avacado, pretty much all veggies except brussel sprouts and i'm hoping all that good stuff offsets all the bad stuff and i just end up having a normal length life :)

as for your comments on cruelty, i agree completely. not to the point of not eating meat, but i definitely agree that there is no reason to treat any animal as cruelly as they are treated in many if not most of the corp farms/slaughter houses. makes me sick. but i'm more for strict oversight than doing away with the industry all together.

i have to disagree with pretty much all of this. There are all kinds of ecological studies that show that ceasing hunting throws off the ecosystem. I'm too lazy to look any up, but just research Yellowstone and see what happened when the indians were forced to stop hunting and trapping there. Also, you mention that people hunt for fun. I dont hunt but i come from a family of hunters and everyone in my family has profound respect for nature and everything in it. They love nature, and enjoy being in the woods and the thrill of hte hunt. when they wake up in the morning they dont go "ooh, i cant wait to kill me an animal!" When i was younger and did hunt, i didn't care about the killing, i just looked forward to going into the woods, spending time with my dad or friends, and yes, there is a certain thrill level that is very hard to explain. but its far from any kind of "bloodlust" or cruelty. I wont argue that animals are abused in corp farms. There is nothing natural about the way a cow or pig is treated in those facilities. however, there is nothing more natural than hunting prey in the wild. one animal, in the woods killing another. thats how it works. now if i dont kill that deer, there is a chance it will live out a natural long happy life. but its also equally likely that that deer will be mauled by a mountain lion or hit by a car and lay dying on the side of the road for 3 hours. So is a bullet to the heart really that big of a deal? My point is in a corp farm, the animal meets a bloody end after a life of suffering. i have no problem seeing that point. but when an animal lives its life free in the woods, does it really matter if it dies from a bullet or an arrow or a mountain lion or an 18 wheeler? And for the record, i'm talking about actual hunters. There is no excuse for poachers or people who hunt for sport. i hate the idea of someone killing an animal just so they can brag about killing it.

Interested on thoughts about Paleo dieting....cause many major fitness programs use a pure or close to pure paleo standard for their diet plans (like Crossfit...). Plus it allows for normal consumption of many things already in the a "normal" omnivore diet.

And I've known several people who did things just as bad for their bodies while being vegan and I do while I eat meat. Your DIET is NOT the only thing that affects your body/life span....so you can't say vegans/veggies live longer because they are vegan/veggie. There are plenty of folks who live longer than vegans/veggies on meat diets. Proper exercise, sleep, stress management, etc are all just as important as diet.

    never heard of paleo dieting.

and i know what you're saying about all the factors. I'm pretty sure we all have taht one family member that ate steak and gravy every day of their life while smoking 2 packs a day and lived to be 145 years old. sort of like the health lottery

Paleo is based on what early humans (hunter-gathers) would eat...A large portion of it is fruits, nuts, lean and game meats, and seafoods. It's pretty clear that the human genome is best adapted to a mixed diet (omivore) due to the way we chew, taste, digest, and process foods. Lots of the health issues related to "normal" diets is due to the processing/refining.
