Nice… not sure how folks do it these days, but we used to use brake fluid to clean bodies for repaint. Of course, they used screws, not rivets on most cars.

 

Oh, I stopped by the toy/cars dept. and picked up a few gifts…

 

Hard for me to tell the difference between the’58 and’59 Impalas

 

Fins, it’s always fins! Difference in trim levels? How much chrome do you see, could there be more?

Just wheel swapped the 59. The 58 has circle tail lights..
Also customized the 58, painted interior and trim.

 

Had some time to bang out a little bit on the project front. I'm still not 100% done as I've got tire decals on the way, but I banged together a bit on my Nova.

The good news with this one was that the stock wheels popped right off, unlike the debacle that was my '71 Chevelle earlier in this thread. I'll be listing the wheels on eBay just to see if I can get a few bucks to get rid of them (which would be absolutely killer).

I figured out a way to Dremel the ACME brand Keystone wheels to fit the bushings of the Maisto. Two I got a bit overzealous with the Dremel, but a touch of superglue on the bushings solved that problem, so this car rolls, turns and retails the Maisto suspension.

This is an absolutely turrible model but all accounts. The doors open up maybe 20° at best and the motor is a fake cover in the engine bay. There's only three screws holding the body to the chassis (most 1/18 use at least 4, if not 6+), etc, etc.

That said, I do feel like the wheels elevate this a bit. I have a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A decals coming at some point this week that should tidy up the final details for me. If I was an artist I'd do some sort of period correct striping in like brown / orange / gold, but I'm not, so I won't.

Found this one in a tub of Hot Wheels in a supermarket a couple years ago...

 

Actually the '58 was a one year wonder. Body and frame.

'59 was a new body style and frame. "Cats Eye" tail lights and pronounced gull wings. The gull wings carried over to the '60 and by the '61 model year, they were gone.

 

I forget the designation… H body?

 

GCD and DiecastTalk made some absolutely KILLER Toyota diecasts!
