There have been several similar experiences at the Wilder Tower. I was a Civil War re-enactor in the 1990's and participated in living history programs on the battlefield. In the evenings after the programs ended we would camp on the battlefield, typically on a Saturday night. The park rangers would drop by and check on us while patrolling the park. One ranger told us of his experience at the Wilder Tower. Late one night he observed a light on top of the tower. He said they were locking the gate at the base at night to prevent people from going up the spiral staircase. It is very dark inside of the tower at night and someone could get injured climbing it. When he got to the parking area he saw that the gate was still locked. He opened the gate and got about halfway up when a blast of cold air went past him. He grabbed the metal handrail on the wall and it was wet. He turned on his flashlight and saw there was blood on his hand. He looked at handrail and saw blood on the rail. He quickly went back down and locked the gate. As he drove away he saw the light blink on top of the tower. This occurred on an August evening when it was hot and dry.

There have been several ghost sightings on the battlefield. There is the ghost of a Confederate soldier who is seen walking across the old war time road at the base of Snodgrass Hill. He has been seen in the evening walking at a modest pace from one set of woods to another. He will fade out of view as he re-enters the woods. He is dressed in a gray shell jacket and trousers and wears a kepi. He isn't carrying a musket or any other gear. He may be searching for a dead or wounded comrade. Once the rangers encountered a group of devil worshippers who had built a fire near the top of Snodgrass Hill. They were about to sacrifice a goat that was found tied to a tree. The fire was what attracted the ranger's attention. These people ran when the rangers approached the fire and left there goat. They say these satanic cults are attracted to places where many people have died. This hill is where the Union army made there last stand before retreating to Chattanooga. Many soldiers, Union and Confederate, died on that hill in the ferocious fighting the afternoon of Sept. 20th, 1863.

It got a little crazy in that tower when I was in there. I usually don't get rattled but something was in there with me. It was very cold and I felt like it was all around me until I turned around and went back down. I was half way up. After I wrote that story I went back and looked up the Wilder Tower on line. I was wrong saying the boy who fell out of the tower after he got his scare fell in 1970 not 1977 and was paralyzed. Another person committed suicide in the tower in the 1980s.
There is a ghost that roams the battlefield called Old Green Eyes that has been seen as well.
I am a Civil War history buff and have visited battlefields all over the south but only Chickamauga and Gettysburg spooked me.
Gettysburg I was walking in the area of the first day of the battle and stayed at the Hampton Inn there along the battlefield. I felt like I had been there before and and never used any maps to get around. A couple years later while researching my family history I knew I had family killed and wounded on both sides during the war included my great great grandfather who was wounded the first day at Gettysburg. He was hit by a cannon ball and lost his arm there. That was kind of freaky knowing what I felt and finding out what happened to him there. He served the rest of the war until he got malaria in South Carolina and died in 1868 from it. Also lost another relative in Tennessee during the march on Chattanooga. Got sick from the cold and wet and died.
My family is from Weston West Virginia and I went back there a couple years ago to visit a family cemetery and was surprised to find Confederate flags on a couple graves.

I used to sleep at a cousin Alex’s house once a week or so we were 2 years apart and I had a car so we hung out, (looked for trouble) mostly weekends. He moved to a new house in a very nice neighborhood, in San Francisco, great upwards move. My very first night staying over I got up to go to the bathroom and there was a light on at the end of the hall, great I thought because I was unfamiliar with the layout in the dark as of yet. When I got into the hallway a short fat man in a towel was walking down the hall and went into the bathroom. I knew exactly what I saw! I put my clothes on and the hallway was dark again I never touched anything, enough! I drove home. My cousin called the next day and asked me where I went and why. I told him and he laughed at me calling me a sissy and a liar. I never stayed the night there again.

Fast forward to his wedding 5 years later I am sitting at a table with his mom and her three sisters, one asks if I am coming over after the wedding, she said I had been drinking and should stay the night, they would drop me off at my car in the morning. I said I would rather get a taxi ride home, she asked why and I reiterated the story, her sister Amelia stood up and said she saw the same man in the hallway twice! My cousins Mom called us liars and stormed away.

I found out that they bought the home in probate as the owner died in it a short balding man, he died in the bathroom. My cousin Alex believes me but has never seen him. His mom still says we are crazy.

    Follie a deux? Dunno.

My wife and I bought a home in San Bruno near 280. It was a good move till we had our son then it was just too busy a street and too loud as fire engines would do the song of their people almost every weekend, We bought a house in the East Bay and were contemplating keeping this house if we could swing it. We decided to sell.

Flashback to the signing of the escrow we find out that the lady that owned the house not only died in it but was there dead for a few days before she was found. She fell into our spare bedroom closet. I used to keep my seldom used clothes in that closet and they were always cold. weird.

She never bothered us till we put a for sale sign on the lawn. It was me that always saw her. My wife is just not very receptive to these things. However one night I wake up to a cloudy figure kneeling on my chest and trying to grab me. I started screaming at her to get off of me and go away. My wife saw that one for sure. We were not prepared to move just yet but we were out in 2 days. I went back twice to repair things for the new owner and both times weird things happened. Once my cordless drill would now work at all I thought it was broken. I used hand tools that were cold as ice to the touch. When I got home the drill worked just fine. The next time the door to the bathroom would not open at all. I called out the new owners name and asked them to come in and it opened right up for them. As I was driving away there was a woman in a house dress standing on the lawn where the for sale sign was. I almost cried when I saw her. YIKES!!!!!! I still have bad dreams of her. She was smiling, and that creeps me the$%^& out.

I had a neighbor named Dan, he and I shared a common issue, we both had brain tumors at the same time and both were in the worst place possible. Fast forward 2 years, I have surgery on mine and survived. Low percentage but pretty much given full recovery except for Bells Palsy and headaches. I’ll take it!

Dan has a different issue, his needs to be attacked with stereotactic radiation. No possibility of surgery. One day his wife Joan comes to me and says. Ivan Dan and I are leaving tomorrow for the Mayo Clinic. They have done all they can for him and are going to try something drastic that may kill him. They leave in the morning. She grabbed my hand and said “Ivan I don’t know what I would do without him, he completes me” we had a good cry and they left.

I was in my garage restringing the eyes on a fishing rod. I have rods hung horizontally across my garage. There was one with new Fuji eyes that had the tag hanging down. All of a sudden the tag starts spinning like crazy round and round and then slows to a stop. There are no open doors and no windows at all. It wasn’t scary just curious.

My neighbor Bill from across the way comes over in the morning and asks if I heard about Dan and Joan? WTF I ask. He said they were both killed instantly in a wreck last night. Time of death was too close to the tag spinning to be anything else for me. I know it was them saying goodbye thanks for being in our lives.

Something similar. My dad was in ICU during the covid era and we couldn’t go see him. It was a known heart issue for some years. I was at my parent’s house and she asks me to take the family schnauzer to the vet for a scheduled visit. I was about 6 miles from vet and the dog looses it. Howling and trying to get out of the closed passenger window. I get home and mom tells me the news of my dads passing shortly after I had left for the vet’s office. She got the phone call while I was there and the time it happened was while I was on my way there.

I was camped out a few days before hunting season to get a lay of the land. The closest city was Taylorsville. I have a huge tent 10 by 12 so I leave my cooler in it to keep it out Of the direct sunlight. About 3 AM there is someone walking through my camp. I got my Ruger security six from under the pillow and cautiously got up. I was making a lot of noise with the sleeping bag and the tent zipper. But the person was still there I could feel it. I got out of the tent flashlight in one hand gun in the other, no one. But I could feel a presence and it went right through me. I did a quick search of my Jeep, the top was off so pretty easy to see no one was in it. The trailer was clear and so was the surrounding area.

Freaked out I went back towards my tent, then I heard it, the unmistakable sound of a cooler opening. I rushed to the tent and was hit by a coldness that I have felt before. Spirit. It went away quickly. I fumbled into the tent and the cooler was wide open.

I looked back at camp and saw a person just fade into the forest. He looked to me to be from way back. Before electricity and running water. I did not sleep at all that night. The next day there were other hunters that set up camp next to me and we became friends, I ate dinner around my campfire with them and they bedded down in their camp. Around 3AM I heard one of them yell go to sleep it?s too late to be fartin around out there!

Just because it was sticky, doesn't mean it was paste. You sure you were dreaming about wallpaper???

One night I was Ubering in Pittsburg California I picked up a lady named Lupé and was driving her home to Antioch from the rapid transit station (BART). We were having a nice discussion about growing up in San Francisco and how long have you been in the east bay yadayada.

There was a left hand turn on the map new condos on the left side of the Willow road and a cemetery on the right. I took the turn and drove 50’ and Lupe started yelling in Spanish “ fantasma Mujer! “ standing in the cemetery 15’ from the road was a woman in a whitish dress staring at us with black eyes. Her feet were not touching the ground. She yelled again in Spanish to go left at the next street even though the map said she lived straight ahead I louied quickly. We shared what we saw to each other and she said it was her first time seeing a ghost.

The remarkable thing is that we never shared that we both spoke Spanish. She just went straight to it when frightened. We both are fluent in English and is our preferred language.

I saw flowers on the dress she didn’t. She looked away as she put it “I so she wouldn’t remember me” I’ve seen my share of the unnatural but this one frightened me. It was evil, I could feel it. Most contacts I’ve had felt ….benign……

You're probably right, with all the political and economic uncertainty, combined with a change in administration, the resource-husbanding squatch figured now is the best time to mount a winter offensive. I expect them to see hordes of squatch pouring out of the hills in the next few days. :D
