Are you running the Vibrant muffler and resonator on your rig?

Resonator yes. Muffler, no. My muffler is pretty dang small. I wanted to start trying on the tame side for the production exhaust. It’s always easy to make it louder. Curious to see how these bigger ones will sound. My bet is pretty good.

Would you be willing to make a system with the Vibrant muffler and two Vibrant resonators for an over-axle system? I’d really like to keep mine as quiet as possible.
My reason being, after I installed my Doug Thorley long tubes (no cats) and bolted it up to the stock exhaust that was on my X-Runner, it sounded absolutely horrible. I was surprised , since the stock muffler is quite large and I’m sure restrictive.
To quiet it down, I welded up a Vibrant resonator just downstream of the flange and it made a night and day difference, basically back to stock sounding exhaust.

I’m down for anything. First step is seeing what this setup will yield! I know there isn’t really anything out there that caters to the guys with headers that still want to keep things tame. We’re gonna fix that

I actually have an exhaust system that uses this type of set up. I had the urd downpipes to the urd midpipes and what I had done was put a vibrant ultra quiet at the point where the y connects to the catback. Then for the catback muffler I used a vibrant oval muffler 1103 and did an axle dump. The exhaust is loud and sporty but is tame and has minimal drone. I'd imagine this with the vibrant mufflers would sound just as amazing if not like if a gen 3 ford raptor and a gtr had a baby this would be the sound you get.

Cool to hear some real world on a similar setup. I’ll play around with positioning some as well as that can make a substantial difference. But no matter what, a free flowing exhaust is going to have some note to it. Even if you do multiple resonators.

Pretty accurate description! My EL Y pipe exhaust reminds me of a gtr/350z type note. For exhaust systems, the way I see it is the y pipe creates the “voicebox” for the exhaust, and mufflers will create the “tone”
I’m not entirely sure why trucks have unequal length y pipes, maybe it’s because the transfer case being in the way, but that’s just a wild guess. Let me remind you guys, equal length y pipes makes trucks sound like the sport car variant of that truck. Take a Chevy Silverado for example with an ls v8 engine. Search up sound clips for an EL Y pipe on a Silverado. Guess what it sounds like? You guessed it, exactly like a corvette/Camaro. Take a 5.0 coyote F150 and search up setups with an equalized y pipe, sounds exactly like a mustang. Same reason why our v6 Tacomas, Nissan frontiers, sound like a gtr/350z/TRD Camry with an equalized y pipe. It’s pretty cool and unique when you break your neck thinking it’s a corvette coming when it’s really just a guy in lowered Silverado street truck on 22s with a custom equalized exhaust. It annoys me when people say it’s impossible to make a v6 sounds good when there’s so many great sounding v6 engines out there. People shit on the 3rd gen Tacomas exhaust note and say the 2grfks is a terrible sounding motor, when it’s just not true. TRD Camry has the same engine as the 3g Tacoma and those sound amazing, but the Tacoma sounds differently because the Y pipe

I get compliments on a regular basis how my truck sounds. That has the very first version of my Y-pipe and a very open 3” system. It is absolutely possible to make a v-6 sound good. A huge part of it is actual collectors. NOBODY else makes a Y or even headers with a REAL collector. They make “collectors” that produce substantial turbulance. Thus very raspy with lots of drone.

Just wait till you guys see the headers im doing for my personal truck…..

Side note, just dropped a video in my IG stories that gives and idea on sound of my full system! @906taco

I’m all for a better sounding exhaust, and admittedly prefer a little throatiness over stock quiet. I know that US OEM manufacturers used to put their resonators after the muffler and just prior to the tailpipe exit, but I don’t know if there’s room for that in our case or if it even makes a difference where the resonator(s) are along the length of the exhaust system.

Positioning of muffler and resonator definitely plays a role. There may not be room for a full size resonator after the muffler. But there could be room for a bullet style.

Sent you another PM. But additionally do you think (I know there is lots of testing to be done), the vibrant UC resonator and muffler will be enough to limit drone. I just ask because I see the URD option uses a "True resonating J-Tube to eliminate drone" and Magnaflow uses "3" diameter mandrel bent main piping passing through a No Drone Technology (NDT) chamber (branch resonator)". I've used the Vibrant UC on a 4 cyl in the past, and was impressed, so I'm hoping you end up with the same success. Just curious to your thoughts.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
FWIW..Been running long tube and JFR Y-pipe with a high flow cat and a small resonator with a stock Ram 1500 muffler. They are designed to flow for 400HP and keep it tame. They are also usually free since most Ram guys leave them at the muffler shop when they strap on the magnaflows.

What I can say is the exhaust on my personal truck is rowdy. Small resonator and small muffler. I don’t have any drone to speak of. And actually (the wife will even agree) I have less drone with my current exhaust than I did with my TRD exhaust cut behind the axle.

I know it’s a viable option for some. But personally, I’m out when things start feeling like a junkyard build.

Had to pay my mistress a visit today. I haven’t put eyes on her in 2 months with everything life threw our way. Living in the rust belt sucks.

That 3rd gen front end looks so nice with the glass fenders. Are those +4?

    Beefcake! Looking good.

I'm at a crossroads with my truck and decided it's time to go long travel after 12 years of owning it and listening to failing LCA bushings for a year. I'm planning go with a +2.5 setup so I think I could get away with cut factory fenders but if I do go glass I'll definitely swap the front bodywork to the 3rd gen.

This looks awesome. Count me in for a Y-pipe and the full exhaust. I’m not supercharged so guessing 2.5 is what I need? 3rd Gen 4x4 with 6-speed MT.

I chose to go with 2.5 without glass works great for all my needs but glass looks so badass on these trucks. Glass is still an option I may decide to go for. I think 3" would look and work great for the 2.5LT
