After 5 minutes of run time in my parts department at work I'm really enjoying it. For the price it's pretty hard to beat. This is my first completely new RC purchase in years and I'm very impressed with it box stock.

I'm also surprised the scout body didn't get you all riled up.

New 3000rpm 12v Short can, long shaft from Amazon.

Pretty sure the Trophy Truck is the only one that can take a longer shaft, it has no transmission case to fit. Still has plenty of driveshaft space.

Good news, it worked, runs quiet. Bad news, I need the 6v version as it runs at half speed. I wanted it slower, but not that slow.
Good news, I also ordered a 6v 2000rpm, so that should be the one that covers the bases.
The gear heads are interchangeable, it was the main gear on the motor that lost a tooth.
also, being a shorter, lighter can, the front end came up a bit.

Side note, the blingy driveshafts for the bouncer were 3mm too short, sent them back and the search may end there. There is another set that would fit, but honestly I think the stock plastic shafts are better quality.

that is the only one. The 4x4's have a 1:1 transfer case that the motor sits in and needs the shorter shaft. The military trucks have a divorced case, so not sure about them.
Technically the gearbox on the motor IS the transmission...:notsure:

Or should I look into another chassis + axle combo?

Looking for some insight for those that have a comp build in this scale or similar.

I was avoiding any chassis swap for my scx24. I am coming around to something though but much like you I don't know much about the performance of any of them and need to do more research.

I would consider a 1/18 scale as well, doesn't have to be 1/24.

I just figured because the hobby shop I went to for new shock oil (as well as where my wife bought me my SCX24) have a large indoor rock crawling setup, I'd like to build up a rig to tackle it with.

I haven't heard or read anything about those.

I'll look into it tonight when the wife and kid go to sleep.

The goal for this is to buy a lot of "off the shelf" parts, but that are more aimed at performance hence looking at LCG carbon fiber chassis, bent links, and highly-praised axles like the Meus Racing isokinetic axles. Thinking I'd go with a Furitek motor as those are highly praised as well.

There is actually very little info on them other than a few vids and reddit posts. I think they are more for scale performance rather than comp. I keep thinking a die-cast 1/24 Jeep pickup body would be a cool build for this platform.

    Ah gotcha

Yeah with the Injora prosteer axles I ordered, those will go on the GX470 for a small performance upgrade but otherwise will remain stock

Body is too pretty to damage

So I figured I'd drop some cash on a nice chassis and axles - motor is pretty much picked out and there are a ton of steering servos

I said fuck it and ordered those Meus axles

Don't even have a chassis picked out or anything. Figured I'd grab some good axles now and sit on them for a bit until I decide on the right chassis.

Got my eye on the Mazz Designs cheat code chassis though...

    Happy New Year!
Installed this generic 550 can from a plane in the vintage SCX10 with a 17t pinion.
Best motor ever! Super low end torque and a fast jog to keep up with it when on the run.

Spent my first sober NYE in probably 17 years playing with the RCs, this is the Tarantula TRX4M and IR40-ified Ascent 18 that I pulled the rear cage off of

    Happy 2025 fellow RCers!

I also have a vintage AX10 Scorpion. I'm about to give it a rear steer upgrade.

I usually run it sans body and recently printed a battery cover to protect it.

Still rocking the Rooster Crawler edition ESC and a vintage Thunder Power 2S lipo with a max 15C discharge from over a decade ago. So old it doesn't have balance wires.
    It's a flex monster.
