Rear suspension bottoming out

Good to know! sorry to say but mine was also made in baja and I didnt own an earlier 2nd gen Taco. But mine still bottoms out with 200lbs and hitting a good size dip in the road. I have to agree that it doesn't seem to be as bad as I thought it would be. My 99 tacoma bottomed out all the time with a moderate load. I just thought the OEM Tacoma springs were crap. Maybe these are better but I think I still want the TSB's because I'll be carrying loads on trails and I plan on towing.
Questions for the peeps that have the tsb springs: What is the difference in the ride when you have little or no load? I'm sure it's stiffer but by how much? Also how much if any does it lift the rear? Thanks

 

Ride Rites were fantastic on my 2005! Solved the problem that the dealer wouldn't take care of. Had them remove the Ride Rites when I got the '10... So far the '10 doesn't need them... better springs than the '05.

 

What part numbers are those supposed to be, better springs or not?

In any case, I have not yet bottomed out with a load when driving over a bump. My 2005 did consistantly and very hard/ harsh bump at that. These are not the same as my '05.

No I dont know him. I'm new here but been on TTORA for a few years. I jst checked my #'s on the left side. I had to hold a mirror in there and it looks like the last 4 is 4191 with no K

 

OP - I just installed some Timbrens on my truck.. Love them so far.. some don't, but I'm a firm believer that if you set the initial height correctly then you should be good to go.. Helps a co-worker get 45 cases of arizona ice tea bottles and drove way better than just with my 2" aal..

Love your Baja threads. I used to go there a lot and 6 years ago went down to San Juanico / Scorpion Bay on the E road through La Purisma. Put 1700mi on my 99 on that trip. How is it around the border lately? Seems pretty sketchy with all the drug lords battling it out.

I was thinking of going with 5100's all around front at 1.75 and a 1.5aal in the back. Do you think that would help with hauling my atv or just be the same ?

or should i just get a whole new leaf pack instead of the aal ?

 

If your leaf pack looks like mine, I'd replace it. Notice how the 3 main leafs are sitting on the overload. This is a picture of mine unloaded with only a cap on the bed. I scrapped my leaf pack and started new. I bought a new TSB pack and am putting a 1.5" Icon AAL in the new pack. If the leaf pack is already shot, an AAL will just buy you some time but it puts a lot of stress on the AAL and it will eventually flatten out. In short, an AAL will help. The single AAL's are supposedly better for load carrying than the 3-leaf although I've heard the 3-leaf ones support weight pretty well also.

Millions cross that border without incident... The drug loards and police are the targets and not tourists... Get through the Mexican cities quickly, using the signed main highways and streets.... Just think of needing to drive through downtown L.A. for a couple blocks to get on the freeway to Pismo Beach... We don't camp in cities, and don't drive through them in the dark (on either side of the border). I only wish I was on my way back to Baja right now!
