I just put the new lower intermediate shaft in and the steering wheel is way off to the right. Can I take the steering wheel off and rotate it left or do I need an alignment? Is it possible that I improperly installed it in which case do I need to adjust the actual Steering column? The traction control light is now on and I think it’s because the alignment is off so bad. Thanks!

If it's off that far you need to pull the shaft and re-center it.

Damn. How do I recenter after it’s already installed? Lift up on the slip yoke and turn the wheel?

You would have to set the wheels straight then slide the intermediate shaft up enough to rotate the steering wheel straight.

Sounds like it was put on not straight. That doesn’t change the previous suspension alignment or steering wheel bolt

So the only way to fix it is to start over and take the new shaft off and straighten it out?

Depends if they designed it with a one way fitment to align it
or if it's 360 degrees without that.

If the latter, you can straighten the truck. Then reposition it.

There's generally no reason to unbolt a steering wheel. And suspension alignment is alignment of the suspension. Meaning tie rods and control arms. Which also has nothing to do with it.

I don't know how hard it is to do. I still need to replace mine.
if it's easy, then maybe you can guesstimate and try moving it one tooth over, until it's straight.
Paint marker is another way but not very precise.

If it's off more than 1/4 turn unfortunately yes, less than that you can probably get away with an alignment.

Toyota intermediate shafts are splined on the gearbox end so they can be put on in any orientation, there's no master spline or cutout.

Remember after installing to check the number of turns of the steering wheel lock to lock they should be equal.
