I do this consistently at work...
Because the choice is to stick out, into an already very narrow parking lot and obstruct traffic
    Or impede the narrow sidewalk

At least in this picture there is ample sidewalk to be had

Agreed. Unfortunately I would be the guy that does not notice the receiver sticking out and smash my shin into it!

I think that Walmart (especially), Lowes, and Home Depot should be excluded from this thread. At any of those, asshole parking is a given; it's to be expected. :D

Why do people walk so close to back of a vehicle? Most trucks here have a hitch sticking out...if you dont learn by the second one....

Not paying attention I guess. Nobody's fault but my own!

Dodging crazy drivers in the Walmart parking lot. I've experienced this. Cars coming towards me from front AND back, so I get as far to the side as possible. I looked over my shoulder at the car behind me, and walked right into a trailer hitch. Now, I admit that this was largely my dumbass fault, but still...

Bonus points for sticking out the shin destroyer hitch into the sidewalk.

But see, then it becomes a game - how many or how egregious an example can you find when you visit one of these establishments?

These two comments belong closer together, again.

I honestly don’t think anyone buying these things care if it’s a truck or not. The next thing they buy will be whatever gets them the most attention on the road, or whatever the rest of the early adopters are over paying so they have the DISTINCT privilege of being first.

Or they're making money somehow. I follow a dealer on Youtube and he bought one but he's probably making decent bank on the video series.

Photo doesn't show it well, but at this location:
    • Driver had plenty of room in front without blocking traffic, and
    • There were MANY parking spots which wouldn't block pedestrians

There's a couple cybertrucks in my area (ATL) wrapped to promote businesses such as construction or tree work. I've seen similar with over-the-top lifted trucks. Intended to catch people's eyes and advertise the business.

Those are the distinct minority though - most of these awful things just seem to be to inflate the owner's ego.

You guys are right! I think the first half dozen I saw had some promotional stuff on them.

    Right?

If your truck is so big that it blocks the sidewalk, park it someplace else.

I know it’s an insane idea, but I actually based my truck buying decisions on what fits around here and spoiler alert, the AC Tacoma is on the upper limits.
