@abacall is referring to the Park City Mountain Resort ski patroller strike. https://www.powder.com/news/ski-patrol-unions-publish-stern-letter-to-vail-ceo

A lot of people around here feel very strongly about the Park City Ski Patroller topic and it's heating up quite a bit. I also initially read your post as referring to Park City but clearly you're referring to the holiday/birthday retail store, Party City, which is shuttering their brick and mortar locations, apparently?

Should've shorted Vail stock right after I heard news of the strike!

Long time, mostly Oak Mtn. It's got the best trails in the area.
Coldwater in Anniston when I get some time. As it's got some harder stuff.

Recently rode all the trails at Guntersville State Park on the E-mtb and it's a beautiful place.

BUMP has been putting in a lot of work out there near you at Tannehill.

    Want to ride sometime?

    It has been a while!

I haven’t ridden in a couple years since my old crappy bike fell apart. My wife just got me a new one, so I’m ready to go when this cold snap gets out.

Don't do what I did and wait for perfect Dec mid-50's weather. Too many hikers and I had to stop every 50 yards here in Huntsville.

I keep getting minor injuries on the ebike. Last one I was hitting some jumps and did a u-turn to do them again and the front washed out and skinned up my knee pretty good. I didn't think anything of it, but jesus scabs on the knees suck.

Before that I was actually riding and hit a soft patch of sand and got squirrelly and lawn darted myself. No real injury from that though.

Anyone have opinions of Chattanooga and surrounding areas? Looking like we are relocating to lower Appalachia at some point this year.

I love where I live in Hoover, AL. 10 Minute Drive to Oak Mtn. Nicest and most well kept park I've been to.
Is it the best MTB location, probably not, but for family outings it's the nicest I've been to.

Chattanooga is awesome though, it's where I would move to to stay close to family while having good trails.
Plus you're right on the eastern time zone line. Means you get the most daylight for your time zone possible.
I've only ridden Raccoon MTN and the EMTB park there, Walden's Ridge. The facilities at Racoon MTN aren't great, but that's because of shitty humans ruin everything.
I was on a road trip and going to use the facilities only for them to be closed down due to unsanitary reasons.

At Chattanooga you're also 2 hours south of Windrock, 2 hours from Knoxville and the 2 bike parks near Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg.
You also have Trials Training Center less than 2 hours away in Pittsburgh.

knee scabs suck a lot. what's the worst I thinkt hough is when you go down in kitty litter or sand and scrap up your arm. so you get a bunch of tiny cuts so the next shower feels...amazing...

Crashed at Sundance coming down the fireroad from the top lift drop a few years ago and got gravel rash from ankle to booty cheek. Bout passed out in the shower when I got home, and the water hit it. Fun times...

The gravel about ground through the front of a GoPro case in my pocket, it was pretty impressive.

Already know the answer that makes the most sense, but looking for input. Need to get some new riding shoes for the upcoming season (clipless). Currently run a pair of pearl isumi x alp which have held up great. Been getting into longer gravel bike rides and events, but still do a lot of trail/enduro riding and such on the mountain bikes.

I like the look and feel of mountain bike shoes and there are some killer deals on leatt clipless shoes that look more like a sneaker and would do well in like a mtb situation, but not sure they would do well on long gravel rides (not super stiff and cleat position). Does it make more sense to get a dedicated gravel/xc racing shoe for the gravel bike and a more sneaker style for MTB? Would love to have one pair of clipless shoes for everything, but that seems to be asking a lot over a few different disciplines.

Definitely horses for courses is the correct answer, but something like 5.10 Kestrel (laced) has done me well for long XC type rides similar to gravel, and do well at looking the part for proper MTB.

That said if you only want/need one shoe, something a little more comfortable is better in my mind than a super stiff proper gravel shoe that you don't like to ride trails with.
