4G hate especially for the PRO why?

I'm still waiting for the 20 or 21 I can't even recall, SR SX V6 price to go below 29k or what ever it was. That never happened, then Toyota upped the price by putting the SX package on the SR5 only.

Who cares ,very little manual labour is involved in the assembly of a modern vehicle, be it Mexico,US or Japan

 

I put together a little pro/con list vs prior gen… you can get them with $5k + discounts currently, I think that’s reasonable and you’ll get a reliable truck for the foreseeable future. Yea, we don’t know true reliability of this truck that we’ll have in 5+ years but Toyota has a history of engineering the right things to be reliable and until we start to see different i’m giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I’ve owned two third gen Tacomas, dcsb and dclb

Pro:
- Fuel economy consistently between 22/23 this was validated with the Fuelly app
- Bed is noticeably deeper when hauling loads -holds more goodies
-amazing over washboard, I live in the sticks and this is a big plus compared to my previous sport trims
-good visibility
-quiet on road, no squeaks, no rattles (just the 4 banger lol)
-engine and transmission are light years ahead of 3rd gen
-head lights are nice, visibility is great
-grille proportions closer to 2nd gen is big plus for me and I really like the fogs(I know, subjective)
-light tailgate is nice
-comes with Toyota branded gasshole(lol)
-door pockets are great
-rear seat room better than my 3g - 14 and 8 year olds fit no problem but, yes, the rear door is a little smaller
-phone charging setup orientation works well
-Plastics feel durable, parting line flash minimal and fit are good
-flat surface for arm to rest on when window rolled down is great
-under seat space large and open
-headspace improved
-seating position improved
-longer wheelbase is noticeable, I like the driving characteristics and proportions, the short beds seem smaller than before but I don’t have measurements to support that, maybe one of you does

Cons:
-gas tank small for someone like me who drives 2k miles a month, it seems like they went full in on the psychology of people and their wallets. Even with gas close to $4/gal it’s in the $50 some dollar range to fill - think this keeps negativity about fuel costs down and starts to condition people to the normalization of 250-300 miles of range in advance of more ev rollouts
-Toyota’s infotainment is still meh, but better than last gen and 4Runner, the maps have grown leaps and bounds better, apple CarPlay is still my default
-audio is decent enough but my civic with the Bose sound system was better. Point being is at the price point it should beat the civic
-rear window smaller, prefer previous style(personal preference)
-rear window control trigger is puny, should have incorporated this feature into the silver triggers by the hvac instead of up by the drivers overhead cabin lights
-I don’t get the defroster coils in rear window, I’ve lived in the northeast winters forever and this has literally not once ever been an issue on a vertical truck window. Like ever.
-paint is thin, already have a chunk out of the hood and peoples doors have nicked the doors up (ffs why do I park in left field and this still happens? lol…) but, to be fair, end of winter stone situation in my area is rough
-not sure about long term durability of the shiny colored plastic on dash in front of passenger seat but verdict is out
-digital gauge cluster is ok, can be busy and why can’t the cruise control icon be hidden when it’s off?? My civic had an impeccably designed digital cluster
-light color cloth on seats is dumb(3g issue in some cases too), why put an easy tostain cloth on a high traffic surface?
-Toyotas oem all weather mats are terrible from a coverage perspective, once tuxmat has options available I’ll be getting those!

I figured id be the first person to actually address the ops question lol. But I don’t have a pro, just a lowly or

edit: honestly, op, just stick with the regular engine. The engine/trans combo fixes all gripes with 3G and never felt the need to have the bigger engine… seems… frivolous more than anything but it’s your purchase!

The old Pro had the same engine as the lower trims (yeah, I know they also offered a 4cyl). More HP/Tq = more money. The engine upgrade includes bigger brakes, bigger diffs, a hybrid system that increases mpg, and a 2400w inverter. I don't think those were available on the 3g Pros.

New Pro suspension is significantly better than old Pro - shocks are adjustable, jounce dampers, and sway bar disconnect.

New Pro has ARB rear bumper, unique front bumper (not just a heritage grill), unique fender flares, Rigid fog lights (not the same ones ORs came with), and a light bar.

New Pro has the seats, obviously controversial, but they are also ventilated which was not available before.

Old Pros didn't have cameras (MTM), SafetySense 3.0, heated steering wheel, aux switches, tail gate assist, or trailer brake control.

That's a pretty big list. Is it all worth 11K? It is to me. Should some of the stuff be optional so it could be more affordable? That would defeat the purpose of having a "top of the line" trim.

And what’s crazy? Toyota is doing it at the same price people in California were actually paying for the Pro's in 22 and 23. I’m not giving up my Pro anytime soon but if I were in the market I’m looking at the new Pro …although, I do have a crush on the f150 Raptor.

 

The biggest reason why I am getting a 4G Taco is because I was offered a price I could not refuse for my 20 3G. And as soon as I get the payment for it I may be around 25k for a loan on the Pro or 15k for the OR.
I am also kind of bothered about this chassis replacement for excessive rust that Toyota is doing. I seriously thought that this was taken care of on the 3G models but noooo, they are replacing chassis now on 2017 trucks. I know it is a recall but still unbelievable in my opinion. This issue should have been taken care off and ended on the 2G's. I just don't like the feeling of having the dealership replace something like that. Again, I love my 3G but I think it is meant to be for me to get the 4G if the sale goes through.

 

I would definitely go for normal seats and non hybrid for more room and storage

There is a good number of poor US citizens in need of personal transportation. They will probably be driving rebadged chinese built electric vehicles in the not to distant future.

 

I bought my 2019 Tacoma TRD off road brand new in Jan 19 for 15% below msrp. Covid is over, we are back to discounting Tacomas.
