Linear clutch pedal return spring pictures?

Does this also solve the "squeaking" noise on a 2004 Tacoma, when pressing down on the clutch pedal? Is there a TSB(technical service bulletin) for a 2004 Tacoma on the clutch pedal assembly? I found the TSB for 2005 and above, but not for 2004.

 

The squeak is caused by friction between the torsion spring and the retention tab on the clutch pedal assembly. Normally there is a plastic U-shaped bushing between the two parts, but it tends to break and need replacement often. I'm not aware of any TSB for this issue, but replacing the torsion spring with a linear spring is a tried and true fix, and one I've done myself. I wish I'd had the guts to try it before shelling out $500 for a new clutch pedal assembly (which then started to squeak again after 1 year).

 

Is this a Toyota part number?

No, it's too dark to see exactly what is going on here, but I think you've confused the brake pedal with the clutch pedal.

Here you go, I took a picture of mine (obviously my torsion spring is no longer there). You can't just replace the bushing while the assembly is still in the truck though, and even then, it's only a matter of time before it breaks again. If yours is damaged I recommend you do the modification - it's easier than replacing the bushing and is a permanent fix.

 

I sprayed nutz lube which is a corrosion inhibitor!!

Not if you use the right spring. Get the clutch pedal return spring from Toyota and you'll be fine. I've been running it for, I don't know, at least a year now and I'm cursing myself for not doing it 10 years earlier.

 

Got sick of pulling up on the return spring to get the cruise control to work. Did this fix today using the 4 cyl return spring. Took 10 minutes using a screwdriver and no more squeak. Highly suggest. This was the old spring, part no. above is the new return spring.

Alright so dumb question and I know its an older post, my 01 clutch pedal is squeaking bad so tried ordering 90507-14030 but it appears to be out of stock and no longer made. Made a trip to a couple scrap yards and couldn't find any. Didn't see a consensus on whether using the brake springs worked or not.

So would would using the brake springs work, or is there a #70 spring size that works?

 

Google the part number and you'll get 20 dealers that have it in stock for $5-7.

Rummaged through 2 different scrap yards in NoCo.

I've ordered with several different Toyota dealers and 2 different OEM part dealers and all have told me it is discontinued and cancelled orders or called to say they couldn't place it. So yeah, I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't already tried Googling the part number or researching it first. It isn't sold on Amazon, Rock Auto, or any of the other dealers I normally order from, I've tried calling a dozen different stores all online and all have told me the same as the others I placed orders with that said they had it in stock.

Would you be so kind as to inform me as to where you ordered from?


Oh hey here is the standard email from 4 of the Toyota dealerships:

All dealerships cancelled the orders or called within days to inform. Richmond Toyota thought they could source it but after 2 weeks called and emailed to inform me they couldn't actually find any of the parts nationally, so I pretty much gave up but still look around and call from time to time as I have been searching since at least September when @turbodb posted his walk-through on it.

 

Damn, never seen that before. I've wanted to order a lot of out of production parts before, but they've never shown up as in stock at literally every single Toyota parts department in the nation like the clutch spring does.

People have also successfully used the brake pedal return spring; 90905-07028, its showing up in stock as well. If that means anything.

Or the original swap, a #70 spring from the hardware store. If its labeled #70 it should work.

I just ordered and picked one up 2 weeks ago from Stevinson Toyota West in Lakewood give them a try. Ordered it online from the toyota parts site here is the part number i used 90507-14030

 

I used a brake pedal spring and it works fine.
