There may have been problems with production, and I know some (maybe all) Tacomas were being held for QC purposes. It's the first year for the 4th Gen Tacoma and there was a problem with some transmissions. Car and Driver is reporting numbers. Believe what you will and trust who you will. The fact is, dealers are discounting Tacomas on their website, something I don't recall seeing.

Nope. More competition and the late launch is going to prevent that. 2025 should be interesting. I think I said that last year.

Despite what others have claimed elsewhere in this thread, I live in the actual small truck capital of the USA.
I see 4G Tacos everywhere I go. All day long. Toyota dealers have modest inventories but are discounting.

Because of my personal observations, I therefore reject the premise of this thread.

Maybe but here in AL they are rare. But then again they weren’t a popular option to begin with in GM Full Size land. Every middle class home has a Yukon and Sierra in the driveway or GL for the fancy moms.

Right. Popularity is going to vary market to market. There were multiple posts earlier in thread claiming definitlve proof that "4gS aREn'T seLLiNg" because of personal observations.

Actual (current) sales data cuts through all this nonsense. It was presented earlier in this thread multiple times. But the "4gS aREn'T seLLiNg" crowd chooses to ignore it.

My brother lives in Houston, and he says it’s mostly full size there as well. He drives a Tundra Pro.

Your profile reads NoVA, that's why I asked.

The popular sites that report industry and model sales are usually same or close, and that is true with how they account annual sales matching the manufacturers reporting.

The category of social media person you mention is in general not the type with good data and news habits. Quite often their fan bases show their own poor data or control of common cognitive biases matters.

Nothing in all the speculation and reporting surprises me. Toyota overall just had a big transition with two huge sellers - Camry and Tacoma - and 2024 has also been Grand Highlander ramping up. For sure my spring and summer shopping was difficult but I understood the manufacturing delays whether it was news of labor capacity or avoiding a quality problem to escape.

Another strange matter is people seem to be missing how back to normal some vehicle sales have become. The big row of Tacomas at dealers near me is pretty much how they were for years.

And we should be back to bragging about how much below invoice we paid. That is the norm. Bring it on.

I know that the local TMM plant that assembles Tundra was not making for 5 months due to their issues. They do not assemble Tacomas. All employees insurance was paid and the ones wanting to work cleaned painted etc. back up and running.

Well, I impressed some with my July purchase getting both long bed and a discount.

First let me say I am seeing more 4th Gens on the road as the months go by. Also, I am mildly price shopping for a 4th Gen. I don’t need a new truck but if the right trim at the right discount appeared I would pull the trigger.

When have we seen a Tacoma Pro sitting on a dealer lot for weeks and not selling with thousands off of MSRP.

posting lil kenny tv invalidates any point you hope to make. that channel is nothing but clickbait trash; every single video that they make is just dumping on whatever new vehicle toyota has.

3rd gen 2016 sales were 191,631. So, nearly identical start and they started on time in 2015.

    in an answer to this.

    1. People are not generally dumb they are sheep who love to be lead and are comfortable doing the same things again and again.
    2. smiling can help put people at ease. because they are already defensive as soon as they come on the lot.
    3. old car dogs will call you that and its because they aren't your friend and don't know your name.
    4. again not dumb, but lots of people don't know what they don't know and all come in needing someone to help them make a decision.
    5. see the above people are creatures of habit. they will often buy the same car or truck they had before trim and equipment unless there is a reason or they are making more money or are trying to impress someone.
    6. you would be surprised, had a guy come off a city bus in 2005 in a dirty ball cap jeans and a US army hoodie, we drove a couple of cars and got the guy down to talk about pricing. and asked if we did cash, I laughed and said of course we can, but usually we just get a check from a bank, guy unzipped a backpack and pulled out 30k in cash, was they guys hazard pay he had been discharged from the army a couple weeks prior. a couple days later he drove that car back to the lot, with his wife and they purchased a van for the family they were starting.
    7. Market adjustments are bull shit (but can keep the tire kickers away from trying to beat the hell out of something nice), but add on items aren't free. but you better be getting something for the add on, like here in Oregon we often installed the rubber floormats, and trunk liners and mud guards on cars and that has a value. but things like extra GPS trackers or magic coatings on the hood, and some extended service contracts are trash and just stuff you can "remove" to make a deal because people feel if they don't negotiate they didn't win.

spent from 2005-2008 selling cars was a great time learned a ton about sales and life etc.
