My experience with the ladder stands on my land is that you need an annoying amount of branches all around you. Small windows cut to shoot through. The other piece is making sure you have enough debris behind you to cover your silhouette. Also, I leave mine up year around and just replace the straps every year. They get rusty and haggard looking but ive also noticed that when I take them down, I never see anything from them cause I guess the ladder portion throws the deer and pigs off a little

Just my experience.. and im a shit hunter so take it for what its worth :rofl::rofl:

Oh and ive got a 14 foot, 18 foot, and 19 foot stands

I hate being that high off the ground but I will say the 18 and 19 foot stands I see more animals from. Both of them are on massive elm trees that are nearly too wide for the ladder to be mounted to them

both of my Family Traditions have skirts...
lil pic of me gittin ready..

the double is connected to a big beech tree, so no silhouette, and the stands been in the same local for 10 years? I pull the seat out at the end of season, stand stays up, the single is up the middle of a full holly tree and skirted as well..
    another pic of me...

i dont know why, they just dont pay attention to me or my son in either stand....... when they are around..... :pout:

Tomorrow is my last hunt of the season in TN. Hopefully a fat old doe walks in so I can put one more in the freezer. Nothing but scrub bucks on camera since November unfortunately.

Also, saved a rabbit a few weeks ago. Right at daylight I heard something run past my stand literally squealing like a pig. Realized it was a rabbit that was injured. Pulled up the rifle and the pursuing fox stood still. Took a 308 to the chest. 1 side looked beautiful, but the other was mangled. Hope the rabbit recovered.

That's always a touchy subject around here. Especially with so many city people buying 5 acre "farms" and thinking they can let their dogs run free. As I've gotten older I don't like dealing with it the old ways. Now we just let the dog owners know we will be trapping and using conibears and snares. I encourage them to google to get an idea of what that may look like for their dogs. It usually takes care of it.

One of these days I may need to actually put some traps out.
